Grayson shook his head with a playful smile, gently twirling a strand of my hair. “Though she’s the model I’m supporting.”
He reassured me that there was nothing to worry about. Still, I couldn’t help feeling uneasy when I learned about his connection to Valeria. Why is he supporting a model?
“Everything has a reason, Bella. Trust me on this,” he said.
I wanted to press what that reason was, but I hesitated. The last thing I wanted was to seem like a jealous wife, prying too much into his affairs.
“Okay, I’ll take your word for it,” I replied, forcing myself to trust his words.
Just then, the door swung open. We both turned to see Eliot standing there, his face draining of color as his gaze landed on us, tangled together on the sofa.
“I–I’m sorry, boss!” he stammered, quickly stepping back to close the door.
“Don’t leave, Eliot!”
Grayson frowned at my exclaim.
“Move so I can work on my business proposals,” I said, nudging Grayson aside..
Grayson shot Eliot a warning look, clearly displeased by the interruption.
Clearing his throat, Eliot held up a stack of papers. “These documents need your signature, boss.”
Grayson shot Eliot a warning before standing and taking those papers from Eliot.
I set my laptop on the center table, a gentle reminder that I also had work to attend to. Taking the hint, Grayson retreated to his wide desk, shifting his focus to his tasks.
As I began working, a message notification popped up on Messenger. It was from Cassie
“Remember the model I told you about? I heard she’s in town to visit Grayson”
I shook my head, astonished at how quickly news could spread.
My fingertips hovering over the keys, sneaking a glance at Grayson: “I saw her. Valeria Moroz?”
Cassie’s response came almost instantly. “That’s right, baby!”
Me: “Grayson assured me there was nothing to worry about. I trust my husband, but… should I be concerned?‘
Cassie ‘Oh honey, are you falling for him? If not, this shouldn’t matter to you. Protect your heart, baby! She added a broken heart emoji.

Me: “I have no idea. The only ones I can think of are Charlotte or Sabrina. I don’t think I’ve done anything bad enough for others to think poorly of my life”
Cassie responded with a crying emoji and added: “They’re the ones with the bad attitudes to do that to you. You need to be careful. It’ll be hard for me to find another best friend”
Geez. This woman! Her message made it seem like she cared more about herself than me, but that’s how Cassie is
Then, I suddenly remembered the necklace. Charlotte’s reaction when she saw it on me. She even insisted that I had no idea about “that night.”
Another message was quickly sent: ‘Can you have Evan investigate Landon Moretti’s background?”
I wanted to ask Grayson for help, but something told me he might be involved–especially since he got the necklace from Tina. And what’s his connection to Landon? Are they cousin?
A wave of anxiety hit me. Is there something I need to know? Should I be worried about Tina’s threat? I couldn’t help but feel miserable, realizing that I only started receiving actual threats after getting the necklace.
It seemed like Grayson noticed me looking his way. He lifted his gaze to meet mine, and I smiled at him
“You’re not working. Mrs. Blake. We could make better use of this time,” he teased.
I rolled my eyes. “We have a lot of work to do. I have tons to catch up on after being sick, Mr. Blake.” I scratched my cheek. “Actually, I have something to ask.”
“About business?”
I frowned. Grayson was a businessman, so he’d probably expect questions related to that.
“No… I just wanted to ask if Tina Montgomery was your ex. I’m asking because you easily got my grandmother’s necklace from her.”
His
ression turned unreadable. “No, she wasn’t my ex. She used to work at the hotel I’m managing. We met there. I had Eliot track down her file and offered to buy the necklace. I think she realized its importance, so she tried to ask for more money”
I mentally compared Grayson’s story about Tina with Cassie’s gossip about seeing her lurking outside the villa.
“I’m going to my next video conference,” he interrupted my thoughts. “I’ll be in the other room.”
“Okay. Let’s have lunch together after your meeting.”
He walked toward me, laptop in hand, and kissed me on the forehead. Grayson’s gaze was different as he looked at me. I couldn’t tell if he was sad or if something else was hidden behind his eyes.
“I’ll be here,” I assured him.
He straightened his back, and I noticed his jaw was tense. Something in Grayson’s emotions was shifting, and it seemed to be connected to me.
Pushing it instinctively out of my mind, the mountain of work in front of me took over. It must have been a while when my phone rang. Engrossed in a conversation with clients and focused on the laptop screen, I answered the call without checking the caller’s name, setting it to speaker.
“Hello?”
It was my
father’s voice on the other end. “Isabella, you bitch! Why aren’t you answering

The words were at the tip of my tongue, but I held back. “This is the reason. Do you really need to ask?
The door opened as Grayson entered, his expression darkening at my father’s tone,
“Charlotte and Lucas’s engagement party is tomorrow night for the wedding next week! You must come, and do not bring your husband!”
“Mr. Prescott,” Grayson’s voice was cold and sharp, “I have no intention of attending that cheap gathering, but I’ll certainly be there to ruin your day.”
I could almost hear my father’s shock on the other end. “Isabella, w–who was that asshole Explain yourself now!”
