Asking Lyla For A Favor
Dashawn
“So, since you canceled on me yesterday, I’m going to kick your a*s twice as hard today,” Lyla said.
We were in the company gym. Samantha, having to stay home, asked Lyla to come over after
our session.
“I had to. I told you, someone is trying to set Samantha up with the company. I had a lead
and was trying to figure it out. You can’t fault me for that.”
“All I’m hearing is excuses. You could have trained with me after you did whatever it was you
had to do.”
I rolled my eyes, and she got a gleam in hers. Sh*t.
I got into my fighting stance. I felt a whirl of wind, and I was on my back.
“What the f*ck?”
“You’re too slow.”
“Um you’re the f*cking Flash!”
She chuckled, “That’s why you’re my favorite, you amuse me.”
Well, at least I got that going for me. I rolled and got to my feet.
“Open your senses, don’t just use your eyes. Feel the displacement of air, taste the fear from your opponent. Listen to the movement of their fabric, and finally look at their bunched
muscles, the placement of a foot and hand, the dip of a shoulder.”
I listened to her. This time I didn’t just feel the wind, I heard the rustle of her clothing, but I
didn’t taste any d*mn fear as I landed on my back again.
“I can’t see sh*t with you.”
“That’s because I’m a shadow. Stop trying to anticipate my movements. Just relax and remember your training. You’ve all gotten soft. I had Demon in a camel clutch three times yesterday. Are you guys not fighting in money fights?”
“We’ve been busy with the missions, and I have this place,” I said, defensively.
“But you guys aren’t doing missions all the time, and you aren’t always here. What about the

Saturday fights?”
“I’ve been spending time with my girl,” I mumbled.
“What? Stop mumbling.”
“I was spending time with Samantha.”
She smirked, “Getting your d*ck wet is what you were doing.”
“I needed to get her pregnant.”
“Did you? Because from what I’ve seen, that girl is in love with you, I doubt you needed to get
her pregnant.”
“It was the only thing I could think of to keep her attached to me before she fell in love with
me.”
She snorted and shook her head.
I got in the fighting stance once again. This time I let my nervousness go and locked in on
her. I actually got a swing and a kick in, which I both missed, but I saw her move this time.
“Good again.”
For the next three hours, I blocked or got my a*s kicked. My a*s and back hurt from the many
times I landed on them. I actually got one hit in, which surprised her.
“You did f*cking great today,” she said, poking at her split lip. I gawked at her like she had
three heads.
“You handed me my a*s,” I said, incredulously.
“Yeah, but you got a hit in. You’re the first.”
I puffed out my chest, walked over to my bag and took out my phone. I set up a group chat
with all the ranked fighters.
Eat it f*ckers, I got the first hit, split her lip.
Demon: The f*ck you did!
Ice: I don’t believe you
Crush: My torso looks like I got a bat taken to it, there’s no way.

“Lyla, I need a picture. They don’t believe I got in the first hit.”
“You’re bragging about getting the first hit?” she asked, with a raised brow.
“Duh,” I said.
She flipped me off but I got the picture and I sent it.
Every one of them sent a shocked face emoji except Flip, who sent heart hands. I think
someone has a crush. Poor guy. I threw my phone in the bag, and she helped me stretch and
gave me some linament for my
muscles.
“This stuff stinks. Samantha isn’t going to want to get within ten feet of me,” I pouted.
“Stop whining. I swear, the lot of you have become such p*ssies.”
“I am what I eat,” I said.
“HA!” she laughed. Which shocked the hell out of me.
“See my favorite. Come on, let’s get to your place. I need to get my buddy and your woman
needs to talk to me.”
“You know he’s my dog, right?”
“Yeah, but he wants to be with me right now. And he’s good company, doesn’t talk back. I’m
training him, by the way. Here’s a list of commands for you and Sam.”
She handed me a piece of paper. She was turning my dog into a killing machine. Awesome.
We made it to my place just in time for dinner. Samantha had spaghetti with cheesy garlic pulled–apart bread and a garden salad. I had three helpings. I was starving. Samantha asked me to take Kong for a walk. I knew she needed to talk to Lyla about something, and she didn’t want me to know quite yet. But she promised to tell me a little later. I was happy with that.
“Come on boy, let’s go for a walk.”
He barked, his whole body wiggling with excitement. I chuckled, kissed my girl and took my
boy for his walk.

Samantha
“What’s wrong?” Lyla asked me.
“What makes you think something’s wrong?” I asked innocently. She just stared at me, which
with her dead–eyed look scared me.
“There’s this girl. She’s messing with me. Trying to frame me at work.”
“You want me to kill her?”
“What? No!”
“You want me to torture her, then kill her?”
I shook my head wide–eyed.
Her brows furrowed.
“You want me to kidnap her and tie her up so you can talk to her?”
“Yes!”
“And then you want me to kill her?”
“No! No killing.”
“Well, that’s no fun.”
“Lyla!”
“What? It’s what I do.
“I just want to talk to her and ask her why.
“And then I’ll kill her,” she whispered.
“Lyla, you can’t kill her just for trying to frame me.”
“Sure I can. She is messing with one of my favorite people.”
“Awe, I’m one of your favorite people?”
She nodded. And I burst into tears. Her eyes widened, and she stood where she was seated
and backed up far away from me.
Dashawn walked in and looked at us.
“I didn’t do anything,” Lyla said.
“It’s her hormones. You must have said something that made her happy.”

“She said I was one of her favorites,” I wailed.
“You are!” Lyla said. “That’s a good thing! Or else you’d be dead.”
That stopped my crying. I blinked rapidly.
“I have to go. Sam, I’ll get on that soon. I’ll let you know when it’s ready. Let’s go Kong,” she
said, slapping the side of her leg twice. Kong trotted over to her and stood close to her leg.
We said our goodbyes and Dashawn looked at me.
“So?” he asked.
“Oh, um, I asked her to get a hold of Avery, so I could talk to her without interruption.”
“What, like kidnap her and tie her up?”
I stared at him, bit my lip and nodded.
He grinned and took me into his arms, his hands around my waist.
“My mom and aunt’s are a bad influence. You’ve been listening to their stories.”
“Except, I’m not going to torture her, or kill her,” I deadpanned.
He threw back his head and laughed,
“They told you alot.”
I nodded, smiling. His family was all about an eye for an eye and so much more. I kind of
liked their philosophy, but I’m not sure if I could actually kill or torture anyone.
