Chapter 75: Confessions And Results
Zander
The more I listen to Brady’s story, the angrier I get. I am not mad at him, mostly Martha and David. They were meant to love him, not use him to do their bidding. All that death and
betrayal was all so pointless.
“She was okay, yes, but that was just a warning. I still thought it’s a coincidence, but do you remember the fire that broke out in the backyard?” Brady asked me. “I do,” I answered. They had a barbeque and Ricardo was sure he put the fire out when he was done. But in the middle
of the night, the whole backyard was in flames.
A neighbor called the fire department, and by the time Ricardo and his family woke up, they were already putting out the fire. “That was the second warning, and I couldn’t risk it, so I agreed to be a double agent of sorts. I had my own plan though to ensure Ric’s family would
survive.
But then you met Liz and everything went to s**t. Keira started acting crazier than what she normally did, because she could see she was losing her chance with you.” “She never had a chance,” I answered and he chuckled softly. “We all knew that, but she refused to listen. I immediately liked Liz for you and Ricardo did tell me the story of how you met.
I played along with Martha and David’s plan. I even gathered evidence that I would give anonymously. I couldn’t understand why they still got information on you, even when I would lie and give them false information. Then I found out about Clara.
From that moment, I started to be more careful. I didn’t know about her or even suspect that she was feeding them information. When you caught David, I was relieved and sad. Relieved that I wouldn’t have to do his bidding, but also sad because he is my biological father.
Then Martha asked me to hire men for the ‘final show‘, as she called it. So Keira and I went to see the bikers. I honestly didn’t know you knew Rebel, but it worked out perfectly. I thought I would let it play out and get you and Liz to the panic room when it goes down.
But then I found out about the baby.” He says, smiling softly at Liz and she squeezes his hand. “The risk was too high. I couldn’t risk Liz getting hurt, so I tried to stop everything. Rebel refused and said he would only listen to Martha.” “Yeah, I told him to say that,” I say
sheepishly and he chuckles.
“Touché, we seemed to have played the game very well. Anyway, I went to see Keira to try and

get through to her. But Martha was there with her, with men she had already hired. They attacked me and tied me up when I tried to reason with Martha.
I was kept tied up in a room, and I could hear them planning. I heard her say she was leaving two men to guard me and Keira until she came back. I managed to get myself free, and waited
for the others to leave. Then I took out the two guards, and took Keira hostage.
The time I called you, I was fighting off another two men that were stationed outside. She
never mentioned them, but lucky for me, I managed to get one of their guns. I then brought Keira to your place in the hopes that it would sway Martha.
One thing I have realized is that Martha would do anything for Keira. She gives her whatever
she asks for. She knows that Keira is that way because of her. She refused to admit that Keira
needed professional help,” Brady says. Liz helps him to drink some water, and I squeeze his
shoulder.
“I am glad you decided to stick with us. I will admit, I was hurt and pissed. I see you as my
brother, and it broke my heart when I found out your true identity. Your actions put Liz in
danger and that is what pissed me off the most. But still, through all the heartache, I had hope
that it was all just a misunderstanding.
I wanted you dead, believe me, I did. I can’t explain how happy I am that you aren’t a
cold–hearted asshole,” I say, and Liz chuckles and slaps the back of my head. “Ouch! Taking
his side again?” I ask, feigning hurt. “Only when you are being a d**k,” she answers and kisses
my cheek.
“I am glad I made the right choice. You two really are perfect for each other. When I get out of
jail one day, I hope to find the kind of love you have.” Brady says, looking somber. “What are
you talking about?” I ask, and he looks down at his hand Liz is still holding.
“I am sure the FBI are pressing charges. I obstructed justice and withheld evidence. Because of me, some of their men were killed.” he answers without looking at us. “Did you kill them?” I
ask, and he looks up at me and frowns. “No; I never told Martha anything Perez told me.” he
answers.
“Then I don’t see the problem. It’s not your fault, you were manipulated and coerced. You were
a victim as much as Clara was: Alvaro and the DA confirmed that they won’t press charges, as
long as you give them the evidence they need and testify.” I say, and he looked at me with wide eyes.
“But what about everything I did?” he asks, and I just shrug. “You can start by apologizing to
everyone and telling them your truth. There will be groveling, and you will probably be on

babysitting duty for life. But I forgive you, Brady. You are my brother and you saved my life. Well, you and my Liz. Did you hear what she did to Keira?” I asked him with a smirk.
“Ricardo told me. Remind me never to piss you off.” he says, looking at Liz. “Again, you mean,”
she answers with a smirk Brady and I both chuckle. “I would never mind babysitting my nephew.” he says with a big smile. “Who told you it’s a boy?” Liz asks. “I believe Zander’s delusions. Am I wrong? Is it a little princess?” he asks excitedly and I have to chuckle.
“It’s a boy, and I am not delusional, I knew it was a boy, and I was right.” I say proudly and Liz rolls her eyes. “Gloat all you want. If you aren’t careful, you will share Brady’s room tonight.” she answers and I immediately swallow my retort and make a zipping motion with my lips
and Liz and Brady burst out laughing.
No way I am pissing this woman off. I can’t sleep if she isn’t next to me. And I hope I never have to worry about that ever again. We spent some more time with Brady, until they came to wash him and give him his meds. We promised to be back tomorrow, and stopped at my office
before we headed home.
Things are starting to look up, and all we need now is to get Elaine’s trial behind us. Toby is back at his desk and happier than ever. Chris is also all smiles every time we see him. I grabbed the files I needed and we headed home. We are having Rebel, Trish and Isa over for
dinner and Liz wants to help Rosa prepare the food.
I went to my home office when we got home. And Liz helped Rosa, who was already in full cooking mode. She loves it when we have guests, because she loves cooking for a lot of people. According to her, it’s boring to make food for two people.
As soon as Brady is discharged, we are having a big party, and everyone will be here. Even Alvaro agreed to come with his wife. I can’t wait for more days like today, when we have our friends over. It will be even better when the baby arrives.
We had an awesome evening and Isa fell in love with Liz, as expected. It was great to see her again. She was happy that Rebel could repay the debt she owed me. There was no debt, but I’ll leave her to believe that. After they left, Liz and I sat on the patio having ice–cream before we
went to bed.
The next week flew by, and it’s now the day that Liz gets her results. She is a bundle of nerves, but she doesn’t have to be. I know she passed, she is brilliant. There is no way she could fail. We are sitting in my office while she checks the examination center’s website.
I went to get some ice–cream and when I came back, she was still staring at the screen. “Have some ice–cream baby, it will calm your nerves.” I said and she giggled and took her bowl. She

refreshed the web–page again and then she froze. “It’s in! I can’t look. Please check Zander.” she said, jumping up, and I chuckled and went over.
I look for her name and when I find it I internally smile. “Oh no my Liz,” I say, and she looks at me with wide eyes. “What? I didn’t make it?” “You only got a score of… 334!” I yell. “What!” she
yells. “Yes, my Liz is in the top 1%. You actually got 3 points more than me. I am so proud of
you baby,” I said, and went over to her, and picked her up and swung her around while she
giggled.
“Looks like Cane and Associates are getting a new partner,” I say and she chuckles. “Really,
Zander? Don’t tease me. Is that really my score?” she asks, and I chuckle and put her down.”
See for yourself,” I say, and she walks over to the monitor and looks at her results.
“Wow! I can’t believe my eyes,” she whispers, touching the screen. “Believe it my Liz,” I whisper
and hold her from behind. “I can’t believe I finally did it, Zander. It’s all thanks to you,” she says,
looking back at me. “Nope, that was all you. I didn’t write that exam, you did.

Your first day you were almost kidnapped, but you still wrote the exam. And look at that score.
That puts you in the top 1%. You did that, my Liz.” I said and kissed her cheek. She smiles and
turns around in my arms and holds me tightly. “Thank you for sticking with me, Zander.”
“Where else would I be? It’s Zander and Liz forever, and don’t forget mini–me.” I say and she
giggles. “I have a surprise for you,” I say, reaching into my top drawer for the gift I had made
for her. I hand her the rectangular box, and she smiles. I let her go so she could open it and
wait to see her response.
She opens the box and smiles brightly when she looks up at me. “Thank you Zander, I love it. I
can’t wait to see it on my desk.” she says and kisses me. I had a gold–plated desk name plate
made for her, to put on her desk. It reads, ‘Elizabeth Caine, Attorney at Law I knew she had
nothing to worry about.
