Chapter 70: Stalling Tactics
Zander
Liz and I are still sitting on the bed, watching the monitors. When I see them enter the house, I
tell Liz to lay down and look the other way. She doesn’t need to see all this. She lay facing the
wall and I stroked her back while I watched.
There are other men with Martha as well. They look like mercenaries, but I can’t be sure. Chris
sends me a message to say they are in place, so I message Rebel. Right after he sent me a
thumbs up, I let Chris know. I watched and saw the exact moment Rebel’s men pulled the
double–cross.
It all turns to s**t very quickly, and to me, it looks like Martha and her men expected this. Like they already knew they were going to be double–crossed. I jump up when I see Martha shoot Rebel in his shoulder. If he wasn’t moving, I am sure that bullet would have hit his chest.
His men get him, and I see a few of them have been shot too. But they managed to get him to
safety, and they took out two of Martha’s men in the process. Damn it! I didn’t want them getting hurt because of me. Once they are all gone, it’s just Martha and her men.
I see her move to the closet door, and one of her men opens it with a battering ram. He still
gets an electric shock, but he doesn’t even seem to mind. Who the f**k are these people? They look like jacked–up wrestlers in military gear. Martha looks directly at the camera and talks,
but I turned the sound off.
I don’t want to hear anything she has to say. I ignored Martha, and checked the outside cameras and saw a van pull up. They carry someone inside and when they take the bag off the person’s head, my eyes widen. They have Toby! How the f**k did they get him? I checked the outside cameras again, and I could see Chris and agent Perez. Thank God, but they better
get in here.
I turn the sound on, because now I have no choice. I need to negotiate with this b***h. I won’t allow her to hurt my family. “Martha, think about what you are doing. The FBI is already here, there is no way out for you. Surrender and leave Toby out of this,” I said into the intercom.
“Now
you talk? I knew this would get your attention. I don’t give a f**k about what happens to me after I kill you. Stop wasting time Zander, come out here before I blow his brains out. Or you could watch him die, and I move on to Wayne next. Pity Rosa is so far away. You do seem to have many people you care about. I could do this all day,” she answers.

“Don’t listen to her, Zander, I will be fine. Stay there and keep Liz safe,” Toby yells and she slaps his face so hard, it moves to the side with force. “Zander,” Liz whispers, and I turn and look at her. “What do we do?” “I have to go out there. I can’t let anyone else get hurt because of me. Please tell me you understand.” I answer with pleading eyes.
“I do, but that doesn’t mean I accept it. Are you really going to leave me? What about the baby?” she asks, sobbing while clutching her stomach. I rushed over and pulled her into my arms. “Don’t cry, my Liz. I am not dying today, I have too much to live for.
I am just going to calm her down, so she can let Toby go. Chris and Alvaro are coming in now and Ricardo is already in the house. I will be okay. I just need you to remain calm and keep our baby safe,” I said, soothing her. Even as I say the words, I don’t know how much truth is in them.
“Can you do that for me, my Liz?” I asked, and she looked up at me and wiped her tears. “Don’t think for one second that I bought that bullshit. You can’t guarantee anything, that b***h is unpredictable and crazy. If you go out there, you better be sure that you can kill her. That is our only way out. Me and the baby expect you back here when this is all done,” she says and kisses me roughly.
When she pulls away, she is still crying, but I am so proud of how strong she is. She is fierce and brave and all mine. I will fight till the end to get back to her. “Tick–tock Zander.” I hear Martha’s evil voice say. I look at the monitor and see that she now has a gun pointing at Toby’s head.
“Martha, please don’t hurt him. He is innocent in all this.” “Then come the f**k out so I can hurt you. You have one minute, Zander, I may be a patient woman, but I have waited long enough,” Martha answers. She moves closer and presses the gun against Toby’s head and he whimpers.
I look at Liz, whose eyes go wide. She jumps up and gets the bulletproof vest Ricardo left for me and helps me wear it under my sweatshirt. I took the gun he left me and put it in my sock. Liz looks at me and gives me a sad smile. “Come back to me,” she whispers and cups my face.
“I love you,” “And I love you, my Liz,” I said, and gave her a soft kiss. “Jojo, please open the door and close it the minute I leave. Liz will stay here. Please keep her safe.” “I advise that you stay inside Zander. Someone has been trying to breach the door.” Jojo answers.
“Thank you for your concern, Jojo. But please open the door and keep Liz safe.” “Door opening in 5, 4, 3 …” Jojo says, and I take one last glance at Liz before the door opens, and I quickly slip

I raised my hands in surrender and walked out of the closet. The guy grabs me and kicks the back of my leg, so I can kneel in front of Martha. She has a smirk on her face, looking very proud of herself. She takes her gun and hits Toby over his head with the back of it. He falls
limp to the floor, with blood coming out of the wound.
“You really are a crazy b***h,” I say in anger, and she starts laughing. The guy punches me and I just wipe the blood off my mouth with the back of my hand. This fucker will die first. I just need to buy some time, so the others can get ready, but I also need answers. “Why are you really doing this Martha?” I ask.
“You know why,” “Do I? It makes no sense to me. Why am I being punished for something your father did to my grandparents? Can’t you see how f****d up your logic is?” I say, but she just laughs again. “You really don’t know?” she asks and I frown.
“My mother died giving birth to Horis. My father never remarried, until he met a much younger woman and fell in love. That woman was your mother. Did she tell you about that?” “No, it
can’t be.” “Yes, it was. Your mother was no saint. The minute she met your father, she dumped
him.

But no, that wasn’t enough for her, she had to hurt him even more. She got your grandfather to
pull out of our business and left my father with nothing. They were his biggest financial
backer and they ruined him. We told him not to bother, that we already had a new venture
planned.
That my brothers and I would get revenge for him, but he wouldn’t listen. He was so hurt and
so much in love with your b***h of a mother. He completely snapped and killed your grandparents. I know your father put a hit out of my father.
That’s why he was killed in prison. I vowed to take revenge and take everything from him.” “Do
you have proof to back up any of the accusations you are making? If my grandparents pulled
out of your father’s business, they would’ve had a good reason.
My father would also never put a hit on anyone. Don’t you think I would’ve done my research?

is dead.” “You are just trying to fool yourself. You know I am telling the truth. It’s your fault
your father is dead. He was a marked man the minute you started that cartel. This time it’s
the sins of the children that followed the father,” I say. She kicks me hard in my stomach and
screams.
“You won’t fool me. I won’t believe your lies, because I know the truth. My father would’ve been
proud that I got rid of your parents. A simple drunk driver did the trick. I just paid his family off, and he was already dying anyway, so it was a win–win. When I got rid of your parents, you
were next. But then Keira fell in love with you.
And as a mother, I will always give my baby what she wants. I just had to tweak my plan a bit.
If she married you, she would inherit everything. You will die in a horrific but tragic accident and Keira gets everything. Yes, she would mourn and be sad for a while, but I would be there
to support her.
But then that b***h came along and ruined Keira’s dreams. When I am done with you, I will kill
her too. Maybe I should make you watch while I kill her. That would be more satisfying,
wouldn’t it?” she says, directing the question to the asshole behind me, and he chuckles.
“Liz has nothing to do with this. I would never have married Keira. There is something very
wrong with her. And as her mother, you should’ve gotten her help, not feed her obsession. This
is between me and you, Martha. Let Toby go, and take me with you.
I can be your hostage and get you safely out of here,” I say, but the b***h just laughs. “There will be no negotiations. I will kill you and when I leave, I will kill whoever stands in my way.” She really is delusional, it’s clear where Keira gets it from. “Now, any last words Zander,” she
says, pointing her gun at me.
“Yes, pull that trigger and this b***h dies.” I hear Brady say. We all turn and see him enter the
foyer from the back door, holding a gun to Keira’s head.
