Chapter 48: In The Hospital Again?
Liz
I am really not in the mood for this woman. “I would much rather have no interactions with
you. I don’t need an apology. In fact, I don’t need anything from you. Please go about your day,
and leave me alone.” I said, and she glared at me.
“I was trying to be nice, but I should’ve known not to waste my time with a classless w***e
like you.” She says and I chuckle. “There we go. There is the crazy, obsessive momma’s girl, I
have come to know.” I say and she stomps her foot. “I am not crazy!” she yells. “That’s exactly
what a crazy b***h would say.” I say and turn away from her.
She screams and tries to lunge at me. This woman really is such an i***t. Does she not realize
I can see her in the mirror? But before she can even touch me, Ricardo steps in. “Mam, you are
causing a scene. Please leave, before I forcibly remove you.” He says in a calm tone. Keira is
nothing but calm though. Her eyes looked murderous and crazy.
I think I poked the bear and she is very angry. “Should I call the police?” Jen, the stylist asks me. “Maybe you should. She is very unpredictable and unstable.” I say and Jen nods. “f**k all of you! And you better watch your back b***h!” she yells as she stomps out of the store. ” f*****g lunatic,” I mumble, but Ricardo heard me. He just shakes his head and takes out his phone to make a call.
He is probably telling Zander what just happened. Now I will never be left on my own anytime soon. I really am so over all these people and their craziness. If it’s not Kyle, Tiffany or Elaine, it’s Keira and her momma bear. Why can’t I catch a break? “Are you okay, Liz?” Ricardo asks
- me.
“No, I don’t like that girl, and I am afraid that isn’t the last I will see of her. I know you told Zander, so that means he won’t let me go anywhere alone. Am I right?” I asked. “I am sorry, Liz, I have to do my job,” he says. “It’s not your fault Ricardo. I really wish my life could
life could go back
to being simple. I am so over all this drama,” I say and he nods his understanding.
We leave the salon and head home. Zander is coming home early to take me to Mary’s place. She still hasn’t messaged me the address, and I tried calling, but she never answered. At exactly 4pm, Zander came home. He wanted to know what happened with Keira and I told him everything. He wasn’t happy and insisted we get restraining orders in case she tries anything.
Over an hour later, I got a message from the same number Mary had called me from. It was the address for her place. She also gave me the security code for the door to her building; and

her apartment number. I just replied to let her know I would be there on time. Zander didn’t
want me to let her know he was coming too. I hope Mary doesn’t mind me showing up with
him.
I look at the time and saw I only had a few minutes to get ready. She wants me there at
6:30pm, because she can’t eat any later than that, due to the meds she has to take. The drive
there alone would be nearly 20 minutes, so I took a quick shower and got dressed in the
clothes I had ready.
Zander is driving us, and he decided to take my car. I noticed that he takes every opportunity he can get to drive Zee, and he loves to push it to the limit. All men may have an affinity for
speed, and Zee is not too shabby when it comes to horsepower. I think I am slowly bringing
him over to the Rover side.
We pulled up to the building at the address Mary gave me, and it looked very rundown. I
definitely need to find her a safer place to live. At least there is a security door that works. “I
don’t like the look of this place, Liz,” Zander says while he sends a message on his phone.
“Let’s just go inside, Zander. I don’t want to keep her waiting. Hopefully, I can convince her to let me buy her a place in a better neighborhood.” I say, and he nods, but he still looks uneasy. I showed him the security code, and he punched it in and the door opened. The elevator was
out of service, so we took the stairs. Luckily, she lives on the second floor.
This place really looks very dodgy and creepy. Most of the lights in the foyer aren’t working
and some of the windows are boarded up. We reached her door, and I was about to knock,
when Zander’s phone rang. “It’s okay, take it. I will wait for you.” I say, and he nodded. He
moved two feet away and spoke softly to whoever called him.
It seems like he doesn’t want me to know what he is talking about, and that’s okay. I look around and the more I see, the more I hate that she lives here. How sanitary is this place? She did mention that she was under the weather too. And this is definitely no place for an old woman to live alone.
Her door opens all of a sudden, and when I turn back to greet her, I come face to face with Martha. She grabs me by my shirt and pulls me inside. Everything happened so fast, and before I can protest or scream, she puts something over my mouth. I try to scream for Zander, but nothing comes out. I can’t help but close my eyes as everything goes black.
Zander
Chris called me, so I stepped away from Liz. I didn’t want her to get upset about the reason for the call. I asked Chris to check who the tenant was at this apartment number. I am not

entirely convinced it’s Mary, but I don’t want to argue with Liz about it.
While I am still talking to him, I hear the apartment door squeak open and then, to my horror,
someone pulls Liz inside and slams the door. “Get here now!” I yell into the phone and rush to
open the door. The door was locked, so I tried to break it down. I use all the force I can muster
and throw my body against the door. After the third attempt, I heard the chain snap. I kicked
the door as hard as I could and it opened.
I was in a panic as I looked around for Liz. The apartment is filled with cobwebs and dust. It
doesn’t look like anyone has lived here in a while. I heard a noise coming from the room, so I
ran that way. “Liz!” I yelled, but I got no answer. I hear a window shatter and I kick the room
door down.
Just as I get the door open, I see Liz lying on the floor, unconscious. I saw someone climbing
out of the window and jumping down. I ran over to the window, but couldn’t get a good look at
the person. It’s already dark and they are wearing black. I think it’s a woman, but I am not sure.
I ran back over to Liz and checked her pulse. Oh, thank God she is okay. I lifted her up and
cradled her in my arms. “Wake up, my Liz. Please wake up.” I whispered and kissed her
forehead, but she didn’t stir. I take out my phone and call Chris. “I am two minutes away,” he
says when he answers.
“Someone grabbed Liz. She is unconscious, and the person got away. Send someone to the back of the building. I think its a woman, wearing black, but I can’t be sure.” I yelled. “I’m on it. I called the paramedics. They are on their way.” Chris says and hangs up. I lifted Liz up into my arms and carried her out of the room. It’s too stuffy and dusty in here, she may get sick.
I carry her out into the hallway, and the opposite neighbor opens the door and peeks out. She is an elderly woman in a nightgown and slippers. “Do you know who lives in this apartment?” I asked her and she nodded. “No one has lived there in more than 5 months. What happened?
Is she okay?” she asked me.
“No, we were supposed to meet a friend of hers named Mary. This is the address she gave us.
I had to take a call and while I was distracted, someone pulled her into the apartment. When I
got to her, she was already unconscious and the woman escaped.” I said and her eyes
widened,
“I am sorry, but there is no one named Mary on this floor. The previous tenant was a man named Marvin, but he was very unsavory. He is still in jail, as far as I know. They never leased it out, because I heard that someone was still paying his rental. Don’t quote me on that,
because it’s just gossip I heard on this floor.” The old lady says.

She gave me a bottle of water and a facecloth. “Maybe you should keep her cool. Did you call the paramedics?” the woman asks me. “Yes, they are on their way. Thank you for your help. Did you happen to see a woman enter this apartment?” I asked.
“I did see a woman with blonde hair and brown eyes hanging around on the floor. I could tell she didn’t belong here by the way she carried herself. She was quite rude when I asked her if she needed help. I didn’t see her go into the apartment though. When she was so rude, I went back inside.” The woman says.
“Would you be able to give the police a description of the woman?” I asked and she nodded.
Just then, Chris comes running down the corridor with the paramedics behind him. They immediately took Liz from me to check her over. “The police are on their way. Commander Carlson is coming himself.” Chris says.
“Did
you find the woman?” I asked. “There was no one at the back when Ricardo’s guy
checked. They are still checking the area,” he says. “I doubt we will find her.” I said. One of
Ricardo’s men comes out of the apartment with a rag in a plastic bag and shows it to the
paramedics and says something to them and they nod. I didn’t even know he was here too. I
was so focused on Liz.
“There is chloroform on this rag. They will take her to the hospital to be monitored.” Brady, one
of Ricardo’s guys says. “I need to know who did this to her.” I say and both he and Chris nod.
The paramedics start pushing Liz out on the stretcher and I go after them.
They allowed me to ride at the back with Liz, and I was grateful for that. I already called Dr.
Willis and he is on duty and will meet us in the emergency room. We get there in no time and
they rushed her inside. Once again, I failed to protect her and she is in the hospital again!
