Chapter 26: Altercation
Chapter 26: Altercation
Liz
I had the best time of my life today. Everything turned out great and come tomorrow, I should have my winnings. They already made the transfer yesterday, so the bank should clear the funds tomorrow morning. Vance left right after the photo shoot because he had another appointment, but I promised to be in touch.
I even made a new friend today. Can this day be any more perfect? “Ready to head home?” Zander asks me and I smile. “I am, I didn’t realize how tiring this would be.” I say and he
chuckles. “It’s hard work winning the lottery, he says and I giggle. I say goodbye to everyone and Zander and I head to the car. “Straight home?” he asks me and I nod.
“Yes please, I will swing by the park tomorrow after I have this cast removed. I just want to make sure that the security all know to be on the lookout for Mary.” I said and he nodded. “We, I am definitely going with you to the hospital. I need to see for myself Zander says, and I smile and nod.
You are healed.”
“I asked Rosa to record the news if we didn’t make it home in time. But I guess we can watch
it firsthand.” he says as he drives, and I chuckle. “It will be weird seeing my face on the
television. Do you really want to watch it?” I asked. “Of course, it’s an important moment for you. But lucky for me, I get to see your face in person every day. I am the luckiest man alive,” he says, making me giggle.
“You will get tired of seeing my face, especially in the morning when I look like the walking
dead.” I said. “As if I will never tire of looking at you. You look beautiful in the morning, and at breakfast, and when you pout, and when you concentrate, and at lunch and…” he says, but I
cut him off.
“Okay, okay, I get it, you like my face.” I say chuckling. “You will always be beautiful to me Liz, because your inner beauty shines through.” he says. “Why are you being so sappy all of a sudden?” I ask, feeling slightly shy. “I am always sappy around you. Didn’t you notice that?
Isn’t that how a man acts when he is madly in love with a woman?” he asks me.
“I don’t know,” I said, frowning. I just realized that Kyle and I were never like this. I think I was projecting my love and emotions onto him. I didn’t even realize until now that he may never have really loved me. I was so desperate for love and affection that I never saw the signs.”
Hey, are you okay?” Zander asks me, breaking me out of my thoughts.
“I just realized that Kyle may never have loved me. How desperate was I that I never noticed

that he never felt the same?” I said. “Don’t do that, Liz. We can’t always choose who we love. If he didn’t share your feelings, then that’s his loss and he is an i***t.
You never have to worry about being unloved ever again. I will shower you with so much love,
I you will forget every bad thing that ever happened to you.” Zander says, and I look at him and smile. “I look forward to it,” I say and kiss his cheek. “What do you think Kyle will do when he sees the news? I know my aunt will probably look for me, expecting a pay day.” I say and
Zander frowns.
“I hope you aren’t planning on giving your aunt anything. She doesn’t care about you, and she made that very clear,” he says. “I know she doesn’t care, and no, I won’t give her anything. I no longer have any living relatives.” I say and he nods. “As for Kyle, I am sure he is going to freak
out.
He will probably try and get half of the money, but legally, we are okay. Maybe he could’ve succeeded if the evidence against him and Tiffany wasn’t so damning. A judge takes everything into account, not just the legalities. They messed up when they tried to kill you and screw you over.” Zander says, and I nod.
“Good, then I have nothing to worry about. They don’t even know where I am staying, so I should be okay.” I said. “If it ever does come to a battle in court, we will be ready for them. That ticket was given to you as a gift, not purchased with his money. If we need to, a statement from Mary will be more than enough proof. A gift received in the marriage doesn’t form part of divorce proceedings,” Zander says.
“You already thought of everything, didn’t you?” I asked and he chuckled. “It’s my job as your attorney. I also have a statement ready in case those two idiots go to the media and spread lies about you. If that happens, we can also sue them for slander and take the rest of Kyle’s money.” Zander says, chuckling, and I just shake my head.
“Do you think they will really be that desperate to go to the media to sell their story?” I asked and he nodded. “I do, it’s a lot of money, Liz. Money that he will think he is entitled to. He may also want revenge for you winning the settlement. Men will do horrible and despicable things. when their egos are bruised. I have seen many things in my career. That’s why I like to be
prepared,” he says.
“Let’s hope he isn’t that stupid. They are both already in so much trouble,” I said. “Don’t go
feeling sorry for them now. They made their own choices,” Zander says. “I feel no sympathy for
either of them, don’t worry. I just don’t want to be dragged into anything concerning them
again. I want to move on with my life, and it will be hard if I always have to worry about what
they will do next.” I said.

“I get that, but at the same time, you can’t live your life like that. They will both probably end
up behind bars soon. The district attorney has a solid case against Tiffany, and Kyle’s case is
still being investigated. There may be more to it than just embezzling and fraud.
My contact assured me that there is no way out for him. They found evidence of money. laundering and links to an organized crime cartel on the FBI watch list. I don’t know if he knew who they were, but Kyle has been laundering money for them for nearly a year.” Zander says,
and my eyes widen.
“I didn’t know any of this. This is so messed up, why would he involve himself with such people?” I ask and Zander shrugs. “I don’t know, but he is in deeper s**t than we thought.” He says. Wow, so many things I didn’t know about Kyle. Makes me wonder if what I did know
about him was really true.
We pull up to the house and Zander comes to a screeching stop. I look at him in shock, but he is looking at the gate. I looked over and saw a red car I didn’t know standing at the gate, blocking out entry. “Who is that?” I asked Zander. “I don’t know the car,” he said, frowning.
Zander takes out his phone and makes a call and puts it on speaker. “Mike, who is blocking the gate?” Zander asks whoever he just called. “I called the police sir, they are on their way. They refuse to leave until they see Ms. Liz,” Mike says, and I frown as Kyle and Tiffany step out of the car when they see us parked behind them.
Zander sends a text to someone and then opens his door. “Stay in the car please,” he says, and I nod. I would much rather not have to deal with their s**t anyway. “You are trespassing and blocking my entry onto my own property. The police are on their way. Leave now, or you will both be arrested,” Zander says.
“I want to speak to my wife,” Kyle says and I frown. “Your ex–wife, and she has nothing to say to you. As for you, Ms. James, you are violating your restraining order yet again. I told you to stay away from me and to never show your face on my property again.” Zander says, and Kyle
looks at Tiff and frowns.
“Don’t think I don’t know how you tried to screw me over. I want my money, Liz!” Kyle yells
towards me. “She has no money that belongs to you. Please leave, you are making a fool of yourself and pissing me off.” Zander says. “You son of a b***h. Have you been f*****g my wife this whole time?” Kyle asked Zander.
“You clearly don’t know Liz, do you?” Zander asks, shaking his head. “If you must know, no, I haven’t f****d your ex–wife. But I do plan to, when she is ready. I am not into pissing contests, and you would never win anyway. Now, I will ask you for the last time. Leave, Zander said in a

calm tone.
I am amazed that he isn’t getting angry. I hear sirens approaching in the distance, and I really hope they are coming here. I don’t want Zander to get hurt. Tiffany hasn’t said anything, she is just looking at Zander with an expression I can’t decipher. I wonder what she is up to?
“Last chance to make this right, Liz. I don’t think you want the world to know what a conniving, manipulative, bully you really are. Just give me my cut and I will stay out of your way. If you don’t, all your lies will see the light of day. Everything you did to Tiff…” Kyle yells, but Tiffany
cuts him off, and I can’t hear what she said to him.
Conniving and manipulative bully? I am no such thing. What is he on about? And what have I
ever done to Tiff besides try to help her? Before I can answer, two police cars pull up next to
the car. “You should’ve just listened,” Zander says, walking back over to the car. The policemen
get out of their vehicles and Zander talks to them.
“Thank you for coming, I am the owner of the property. They are blocking my entry and refuse
to leave. My girlfriend has a restraining order against that woman. She is violating it and the
terms of her bail after she tried to kill my girlfriend…” Zander says, and he is still talking, but I I
can’t help fixating on the girlfriend part. I suppose that is what I am, and that makes me smile.
Two officers go over to Kyle and Tiffany, who both tried to make their escape while Zander
was talking to the one policeman. The policemen handcuff them and drag them over to their
vehicles. Tiffany is screaming and trying to get away, while Kyle hasn’t taken his eyes off me.
He only looked away when they loaded him into the back of the vehicle. I got out of the car
and went to stand with Zander.
