Chapter 27: Laying Low
Liz
Zander is talking to the police officer, who is making notes. “Are you okay Miss?” the police
officer asks me. “I am fine, thank you officer. What will happen to them now?” I asked.
“We will keep them overnight, and a judge will only hear their case in the morning. I will have
to check on the conditions of their bail. You may want to get a restraining order against your
ex–husband too. I have a feeling this won’t be the last altercation.” He says and I nod.
I have that same feeling. They should’ve just left when Zander told them to. Why are they
making everything so difficult for themselves? It never had to come to this, we could’ve just
split amicably.
When we have finished answering questions, one police officer gets in the red vehicle that Kyle and Tiff came in, and drives off. They all leave, so Zander and I head inside. “That was interesting and so unnecessary, Zander says and I nod. “I agree, and judging by their behavior,
they will be back.” I say and he nods.
“I was thinking the same thing. I think maybe we should postpone our trip a bit so we can keep an eye on them.” Zander says, and I nod my agreement. “I think that is a good idea. I won’t enjoy myself knowing they are up to something,” I said. “I think we should lie low for a
while.
I
I won’t be so calm next time. I don’t believe in hitting women, but I really want to slap Tiffany. Don’t even get me started on Kyle. I would love to rearrange his face.” Zander says and I chuckle. “You and me both,” I say. “How do you feel about going to stay at my parents‘ place
for a while?” Zander asks.
“Are you kidding me? You know I love that house, of course I would love to go stay there,” I say, and he chuckles. “They won’t know, to look for us there and the house is in my mom’s maiden name anyway. I haven’t changed the title deed yet. We can go now, if you want,” Zander says.
“They won’t bother us again today, we can go tomorrow when I am done at the hospital.” I say and he nods. “I need to make a few calls, I will be back down shortly.” Zander says and kisses
forehead before he goes to his office. I went to greet Rosa and fill her in on what
happened.
my
Rosa will obviously be coming there with us. There is no way she would let us go alone. When we finished talking, I headed upstairs to pack some clothes to take with me. I am actually

excited about staying at his parents‘ house. The house and property are stunning.
While I am still packing, Zander comes into the room. “Need help?” he asks. “I am nearly done. I just have to pack my underwear and toiletries.” I say and he smirks. “Let me help you,” he says and opens the drawers with my underwear. I give him a look with one eyebrow raised and
he chuckles
“I told you once before, I know what I like to see on a beautiful woman. And I will definitely be
seeing you in these.” He says taking out the sexy underwear he bought me. “You are terrible.” I say, shaking my head, and he just chuckles and continues choosing items for me to take with.
When we are done, we head down for dinner. We enjoyed our meal and watched my interview
on the news. It was so weird seeing my face on the TV. But now I wonder how Kyle and Tiffany
knew if the interview was only shown now.
Zander filled me in on the calls he made, and I love how he shares every detail of his life with
- me. I only realize now that this is the way it is supposed to be. Discussing your day while your
enjoy dinner. Isn’t that what a couple does? I never had that with Kyle. I would be lucky if he
sat down and had a meal with me.
After a nice relaxing bath, I went straight to bed. Today has been a long day. And even though
Kyle and Tiffany tried to ruin it, I still had an awesome day. Zander came to kiss me good
night before he went to his room. I really wished he would stay, but he is sticking to his
promise to wait. That’s okay, because tomorrow, he is all mine.
The next morning, we were both up early for my appointment with Dr. Willis. If the bones are
completely set, I won’t need a new cast or a brace. It doesn’t hurt at all anymore, so I am
optimistic. This cast is a nightmare, but luckily it’s not the hand I use the most.
Dr. Willis took the cast off and after some x–rays, he happily sent me on my way with a wrist guard for just in case. “I feel so free without the cast,” I said, flexing my fingers, and Zander chuckled. “I only ever wore a cast once before, and I hated it then too..
My left leg got stuck between the front and the back seat in the car accident my parents died in. The passenger seat moved completely to the back and that’s how I got stuck. I had a few broken bones they needed to reset, so I had to wear the cast.” I say while we drove to the park.
“I have been meaning to talk to you about the accident. I hope you don’t mind, but I checked up on the case. Do you know the case is still open and unsolved?” Zander asks me and I frown. “No, I didn’t. I wonder why? They said it was just an accident,” I said.
Zander parks the car and turns to look at me. “Liz, it wasn’t an accident. They obviously never told you, because
you were so young. Your grandparents knew the truth though. They were

forced off the road by another car. Your dad lost control and couldn’t stop because the brake.
line was cut.
The detective that handled the case didn’t have enough evidence to back his theory, but he
never closed the case. It’s what they call a cold case now. They had a few suspects, but
nothing panned out.” he says. “Why wouldn’t my grandparents tell me?” I ask.
“Maybe they wanted you to have closure. I would really like to do some digging. I also think
maybe you know more than you think you do. I think that dream you had the other night is your repressed memories resurfacing. I really think you should go see someone. I can speak
to Dr. Willis and get a referral for you,” Zander says.
“Do you really think I know what happened?” I ask him and he nods. “I have a gut feeling your
do,” he says. “Then I will definitely go see someone. I need to know who killed my parents.” 1
say and he smiles. “You are amazing,” he says and kisses my cheek.
We got out and headed to the security office for an update, but Mary hadn’t shown up yet.
Where can she be? I wish I knew where to look for her. We sat on that bench for a bit, before.
we headed to his parents‘ house. Rosa was already there, cooking up a storm for our welcome
dinner, as she called it.
After we unpacked and both grabbed a quick shower, we went downstairs to meet up with all
the staff. The staff that live on the premises are all so nice. I can tell I am going to like it here. We all had dinner together, before the driver took Rosa home.
She was supposed to sleep over, but her neighbor is out of town, so she is dog sitting. Zander offered for her to bring the dog here, but she said he was a little rascal. Apparently, he gets himself into the weirdest predicaments.
When the staff cleared up, Zander and I sat on the couch in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine. “I really love this house. It has so much character.” I say and he smiles. “Do you see that chip in the fireplace?” Zander says, pointing to a missing piece of marble in one corner of the fireplace.
“I didn’t even notice it until you pointed it out.” I say. “That was me, my mom refused to have it fixed because she said every memory counts.” He says smiling. “What did you do?” I ask and he chuckles. “We were watching, ‘The Three Musketeers‘, and I was convinced I could swing a sword like they could.
So, I took the fireplace poker and showed my parents my moves. It didn’t end too well because I managed to damage that marble, as well as most of the wall, and the table that used to stand there. By the time I was done, I thought I was a proper swordsman, until I saw all the

damage and my dad’s angry face.
My mom thought it was hilarious and even took pictures. Sad to say, my dad made sure my days with a sword ended there.” He says and I laugh so hard, I nearly choked on my wine. ” Maybe it was a good thing you retired. You are a much better lawyer,” I say, and he chuckles.
“I think so too.” He says and chuckles. “Are you okay being back here?” I ask him. “Maybe if I was alone, it would be too much. But having you here helps. This whole house is filled with good memories, I just don’t like to be reminded of what I lost.” He says with a somber look.
“I understand, I never went back to my old house either. My grandparents hired people to pack
everything up. They also never wanted to go back there. There were too many memories. I
haven’t had the heart to go through their belongings either. It’s all still in a storage facility,” I
say, and he nods.
“We should go check it out, there may be something there that can help find their killer.”
Zander says, but I don’t answer. “I can get someone to look through everything if you don’t.
want to do it yourself. He is a Pl that my firm uses. He is very good and thorough,” Zander
said, and I nodded.
“Thank you, I think that’s a better idea. I don’t think I am ready to go through their things now that I know the truth,” I say, and he nods and smiles. He was about to pour me another glass, but I stopped him. “No more for me, thank you.” I said, and put my feet on the couch.
I
He turns slightly and puts my legs on his lap and starts massaging my feet. Oh, that feels so good, Kyle never did anything like this for me. “A retired swordsman, an accomplished lawyer and a massage therapist too?” I ask and he chuckles.
“Only for you, it seems.” He says and runs his hands up and down my legs. His touch feels so good and right. Oh, f**k it, I want this man. I think I have waited long enough.
