Chapter 13: An Accident

I had finished working for the day and I was thinking about taking 112 aut for dinner ea teallad her. “Where are you?” I asked. “I had just finished lunch at a cafe near the park had a delicious pasta and a showdown with Tiffany as a side dish. Now I am on my way to the car I
will be home shortly” She says.
What the f**k is wrong with that girl? “Are you okay? Did she hurt you?” Task and sha
chuckles. “I think her feelings and pride may be hurt, but I am perfectly fine. Just give me a
second to get in the car She says, and I hold on for a bit. I hear her get in the car and start it. “Sorry, I just put you on speaker, so I can drive. Why did you call?” she asks.
“I thought maybe we could go out for dinner. I am finished at the office, so I am heading homel now” I said. “That sounds perfect. I didn’t get to finish my lunch because of Tiff Maybe we can have an early dinner,” she says. “Great, I will meet you at home. Any news on Mary?”

“No, she didn’t pitch and security had no news either. I won’t give up, I will what the f**k she says not finishing her sentence. “Liz, what’s wrong? Are you okay?” I asked, and then I heard a loud bang, and it sounded like the phone fell too. I heard glass shatter, and it sounded like her car was hit “Liz!” I yelled but got no response. “Liz! Are you okay?” I yelled, grabbing my keys

“Toby, track Liz’s phone and send me her location. I think she was in an accident.” I yelled as ran to the elevator. “On it sir” He answered back. “Thanks!” I yelled as I got in the elevator and headed to the parking level. I got into my car and drove towards the park. I know where the closest café is to the park, so I hope she went there.
She couldn’t have driven far in the time we spoke. I hung up the call with her because there was no response from her side. I also needed to keep the line open for Toby. f**k, I hope she is okay. I am sure someone hit her car. What other explanation could there be?
My phone rings and I answer. “Do you have her location? Task Toby when I answer the phone. “I do boss, I sent it to your phone. I called emergency services, and they are on their way too.” he says. “Thanks Toby.” I say and hand up. I pull up the location on my phone and use my
GPS. I should be there in five minutes.
I drive as fast as I can, but the roads are terrible. I reached the location and screeched to a stop. Liz’s car is on the side of the road and its flipped upside down. I jumped out and ran over

to the car and I could see she was still in there. “Liz!” I yelled as I ran over, but she didn’t
answer.
There are no other cars around so I don’t know who hit her. Why would she take this road? Its. so quiet, no one uses these shortcuts in winter. I went to the door and tried to get it open, but I couldn’t, it was too badly dented. She is still strapped in, and is bleeding from her head. Thank
God for seat belts.
I take the rest of the windshield out and try to get to her through there. I hear sirens approach,
and I breathe a sigh of relief. “Liz, help is on its way. Just hold on for me.” I said as I tried to
reach her through the opening. “Liz, can you hear me?” I yelled but got no answer.

I hear a car stop and a man runs over to me to help. He is smaller than me, so he gets in
easier. He cuts the seat belt and I reach forward to steady her. Between the two of us,
managed to get her out and onto the road. We put her down and I put her head in my lap.
Thank you,” I say and he nods.
“I called emergency services, but they are already on their way. I see them now.” He says, looking down the road. They park and rush over with a stretcher and start looking at her. Toby came running over and I looked at him. “I had to check you were okay. I will stay here, you go. to the hospital with her. I will get her belongings out of the car when the police are done.” Toby
says.
“Thank you, Toby, you are the best.” I say and he smiles and squeezes my shoulder. “She will
be okay,” he says, and I nod and look over at her. “Did you see what happened?” the man asks
- me. “No, I was on the phone with her at the time and I heard the crash.” I say. “It looks like
someone hit her. Look over there.” He says and shows me what he was looking at.
You can see exactly where she went off the road. Her car is black, but there are pieces of a
brown car all over the road. There are also tyre marks of someone speeding away. The i***t
didn’t stop to pick up their license plate either. “Run the plate,” I tell Toby and he nods. He
takes out his phone and makes a call.
“Thank you for all your help. Please leave your details with Toby. I am sure Liz would want to thank you for saving her life.” I say and he nods. “I will, but please keep me updated on her condition.” He says, and I nod and run over to the ambulance.
I told the paramedics she was living with me, so they let me ride with them. She was still
unconscious, and they had her attached to oxygen and were checking over her. I just held onto her hand while they worked and said a silent prayer for her to be okay.
We arrived at the hospital very quickly, and thanks to Toby, she was seen immediately too. He

must’ve called his father, because he came and attended to her himself. He is a doctor here at
this hospital, so I know Liz will get the best care. His father was actually one of my first clients. I helped him when a con artist tried to sue him for malpractice.
He would’ve lost his license if not for me and my contacts. We managed to find proof of all her other cons and cleared his name. I took Toby on when he graduated. He is an excellent
young man and very bright. I am completely lost without him.
I paced the waiting room while I waited for news. She had better be okay. I don’t know what I would do if she wasn’t. I didn’t even tell her exactly how I felt about her. This can’t be the end of our story, when it has only just begun. My phone rings and I stop pacing and see its Toby.
“Toby,” I said in answer. “Sir, how is she? Did my dad come?” he asks. “He did, he is busy with her now. Thank you, Toby, remind me to give you a raise.” I said and he chuckled. “You may want to give me a bonus too. I know who drove her off the road.” He says. “Who?” I ask.
*Her cousin, Tiffany James, is the registered owner of the vehicle.” Toby says. “That f*****g b***h. I had a feeling it was her because she has a brown car. Okay, keep me updated and give the police my details and ask them to give me a call.” I say. “I already did, a detective will call you soon.” He says, before he hangs up.
I start pacing again, and every time someone comes through the door, I hope it’s for me. This is taking too long, I need to know she is okay. My phone rings again, and it’s a number I do not know. “Zander Caine,” I said in answer. “Mr. Caine, this is detective Scholtz, your assistant gave us your details. Thank you for assisting us. I believe you have the address of the
perpetrator?” he says.
“Hello detective, yes, I do. She is the victim’s cousin who was living in her home. Long story short, Elizabeth took Tiffany in when she was stranded. Tiffany then slept with Liz’s husband, and he filed for divorce and kicked Liz out. I am her attorney, and she is staying with me because her husband left her with no money. We are trying to finalize the divorce, but her
husband doesn’t want to give her a cent.
Threats were made by both her husband and Ms. James in my presence. Mr. Stanford’s attorney was also present when some of the threats were made. I was on a call with Liz when the accident happened. She mentioned she ran into Tiffany before she got into her car.” I said.
“Clearly, it’s premeditated. Okay, we will go to the hospital as soon as we can. For now, we will
him run with what we have and try to locate Ms. James.” Detective Scholtz said, and I gave the address and Kyle’s full name, as well as Steve’s details and number. He had better tell the truth and help them, or I will make sure he can never work in this city, again.

I put my phone back in my pocket and started pacing again. What is taking so long? As if he heard my question, Dr. Willis comes walking through the door and I rush over to him. “Please tell me she is okay doc.” I say and he smiles. “She will be okay Zander. She took a nasty. knock, but the scans show minimal swelling, but we will continue to monitor it.
She is still unconscious, and we will keep her that way until the swelling goes down. She
should be on her feet in a week or so. I stitched the gash on her forehead and I realigned her
carpal bones, because she fractured her left wrist. She will have to wear the cast for at least
three weeks.
The rest are all superficial cuts from the glass. She also has a few bruises from the impact.
You can go see her now, but remember, she won’t wake. I had her moved to a private room.” He
s, and I let out a sigh of relief. But I still feel very pissed at that b***h. How could she do
this to Liz? It could have been so much worse.

hospitals in general. I haven’t stepped foot in a hospital since my parents died. They both took
