Chapter 0191
Jake POV
“Hm?” Jane breathed.
Her eyes roamed about looking for me before they returned to the old Honda sitting across the street from her house.
Jet was still leaving. I ducked lower in the back seat to keep from looking at him. The girl no longer walked beside him. Which meant he would sense eyes on him in a heartbeat. I had to
avoid that.
“You’re with the wrong crowd,” I gritted again.
“What do you mean wrong crowd? I live here,” Jane replied. “And Jet’s your friend, isn’t he? You two were together the other day.”
I raised my head. She was staring in my direction now. Jet was not yet out of sight, but I
didn’t care anymore.
It was hard to believe that I was doing the exact same thing I lectured Nick about. I recalled thinking that the Alpha was pathetic for behaving the same way. I even called him obsessive
to his face.
This is not stalking, Jake. Calm the f*ck down! You’re not lovestruck Alpha Nick.
Okay, this was not the first time, but those other times didn’t count because we hadn’t officially met yet.
I was here to meet with her. Barely one day had gone by, and the girl was already violating the terms of our agreement. I had to warn her to stop. That’s why I was here.
“Jet’s not my friend.” My tone was harsher than I meant it to be.
“What happened to your fancy car? Oh, you don’t want anyone to recognize you. I forgot,” she
said.
Was that bitterness I caught in her voice? Since I had no witty response to her comment, I
moved on to what I meant to say,
“I need you to return to the agreed home like you should when the day is over.”
She turned around to look at her mother, who stood by the door. The older woman’s expression was full of disapproval as she looked from her daughter to the Honda across the
street.

“I’ll be right inside, mom,” Jane said.
Then she held the phone back to her ear. Lowering her voice, she said,
“I live here, Jake. I told you. I can’t just move house.”
“And I told you, you have no choice,” I breathed.
“Nasir is waiting two blocks behind me. Can you see him?”
Her gaze shifted in that direction, then returned to me.
“He’ll get you home where you should be. Pick up some clothes or other personal effects if you have to. Let him know what else you’ll need. Don’t keep him waiting too long.”
“I need time. My mom found out I didn’t go to work today, and she was a little shocked,” she replied.
Goddess, this was frustrating.
“Do you hear yourself? You’re not thirteen years old, Jane! Every minute you spend here is a violation of our terms. Do you know the penalties? Can you afford it?”
My irritation dissolved as she lowered her eyes in what seemed like embarrassment. Did I go too far?
Well, she caused this. Why was she making me irritable already. She should defer to me, her mate. Not to that lying, hateful human lingering by the door.
Mrs. Brown was to blame for all of the girl’s problems. I would make her see that if not tonight, then soon.
“I–i didn’t sleepwalk last night. Or the night before,” she said weakly.
“You and I know you’ll do it again three or four weeks from now.”
“How did you know that?” She looked shocked.

“You’ve asked me that before. I know stuff about you, Jane. Now get some clothes. Go to Nasir, and he’ll drive you home. We have begun. We can’t make any progress with you living with your mother. I’ll meet you at the house so I can tell you what I found out about your parents.”
I hung up before she could ask me any further questions.
Whatever she wanted to know? She would find out only if she got back to the privacy of that house. Or at least, in the privacy of just us two.

Without a doubt, I knew the suspense would make her go where I wanted. I was right.
Rather than go inside her house, she approached the cab in which I sat. Her mom followed
her.
Either she didn’t feel Mrs. Brown behind her or she didn’t care. All of her attention was aimed
at me.
Only when they had both crossed to my side of the street did she look behind her.
“Mom?”
“Who’s that?” Mrs. Brown asked, distaste written all over her face.
