Chapter 0180
Four nights ago, when Avery fought the beta and carried Jane back home,
Avery POV
“Mary mother of God!” Mrs. Brown cried. She frantically made the sign of the cross as she rushed down the porch to meet me.
Jane jolted awake at the sound of her voice. She struggled against me, and I set her down quickly.
“Careful,” I said. “It’s okay. You’re alright.”
“My goodness, ti cheri. How come?” Her mother cried. “I locked all of the doors, I swear.”
Her eyes brimmed with tears of worry and fear as she spoke.
Jane was wide awake now and immensely embarrassed. She pushed past her mother and ran into the house.
“She’s alright, Mrs Brown,” I assured her. That’s all that matters now.”
“Oh, thank you so much, sergeant. You don’t know how grateful I am. Imagine what could’ve happened… on such a night.” She glanced up at the full moon.
It is better not to imagine, I thought. Though the older female was human, she knew enough about werewolves and this time of the month. She understood that her daughter could have gotten into trouble if another male had seen her. Or even a troublesome, higher rank female.
I reminded myself that another male did see her. Beta Jake. I couldn’t dwell on that thought long enough because Mrs. Brown seemed to notice the fact that I was bare–chested. Her countenance changed as she began to back away.
“Well, thanks again.” Her voice was higher pitched this time as she swiftly turned away.
There was no asking why I was shirtless on such a cold night. The woman knew exactly what I was and where I must’ve found her daughter.
Mrs. Brown never liked me. It wasn’t personal. She didn’t like Sara James or Sebastian. Didn’t like my uncle or any other werewolf and half–blood acquainted with Jane. She regarded us all with suspicion.
No one knew what happened between her and Jane’s father, and frankly, no one cared. I didn’t,
Hell, the humans in the town all believed that the late Mr. Brown was the girl’s father. But he

was human, so us wolves and half–wolves knew better.
I turned away, eager to return to the forest. The night was passing quickly. After today, I couldn’t shift again for another twenty–five days.
I raced back into the woods and hoped to Goddess that the f*cking beta or other city werewolves stayed out of my sight for the rest of the night. Hopefully, that guest from New Zealand would keep them all busy indoors.
What the hell did the beta want with Jane? The way he walked behind her like a predator was rather disturbing. I made a mental note of asking him the next time we ran into each other. But please, Goddess, not tonight.
Once back in the woods, there was only one place my wolf wanted to go. I let it. I was slowly coming to terms with the fact that this little town really was part of the Forest Moon now.
It did not matter. As long as the city folks didn’t bother me or caused any civil trouble, there would be no problem.
Werewolves and other creatures of the moon roamed about, playing and hooking up behind trees and shrubs. How lucky for those ones.
Some sensed me passing by. The disinterest with which they regarded my presence was proof that these ones were warriors and considered me a member of their pack. A pitiful half- wolf, taking advantage of the night before the moon began to wane.
Aylin was probably out having fun too. As a noble rich kid, her big brother probably wouldn’t let her veer too far from the resort.
Just this one night, I whispered to my wolf, letting it take control as my senses led me
towards the stream near the hills.
Letting my instincts lead the way, it wasn’t long before my senses caught something.
Laughter mixed with playful growls and whimpers sounded ahead.
The sound of the laughter rang inside my heart, causing a fierce jerk. I stopped as the trees echoed my mate’s distinct voice back to me.
She was not alone. Of course, she wasn’t. She had her own gamma that followed her at night. Though apart from the female warrior, I could sense another.
I resumed walking, but my strides grew slow and measured. As I reached the large tree that bore Nick’s territorial marks, I saw the two.
Not two, but three figures. The warrior was the first to enter my line of sight. She had seen

and sensed me moments ago but didn’t feel threatened by my presence one bit. She didn’t take me seriously.
My gaze settled on the other two playing near the stream. Aylin and a male of equal noble
birth.
I watched as she raced out of the water, squealing in such delight as he chased and caught up with her. When he wrestled her to the ground, dirtying her neat, blonde furs, she let him.
She laid laughing and whimpering, letting him nuzzle her throat and lick her chin. I felt a storm rising inside me at the sight.
She barked playfully, and he growled in return. The sound felt like someone had just emptied a galon of fuel on the fire in my soul.
My mind went blank. Something loosened inside me like a knot. Aylin was the first to see me advance. A series of emotions crossed her eyes, ranging from surprise to confusion, then fear.
The other two were still oblivious when I lunged at the guy, attacking with teeth and claws and all of my might. He was unprepared, giving me a massive advantage.
He struggled beneath me, stabbing and biting. My fangs dug deep into his flesh as I returned the claw stabs, cutting any pieces of flesh I could reach.
The male was bleeding and healing. So was I. His throat wouldn’t heal so quickly. In fact, I was determined to make sure he never healed at all.
‘Let him go! Get off him! Caspian, where the fuck are you! We have a lunatic here! The guy’s unhinged. Get off him this instant!‘
An unknown voice. Probably her gamma.
Hands and claws assaulted me. Hitting, dragging, fighting to pull me off of the male. All to no avail. I felt the warrior’s blows, but the pain were like some one else’s.
I was on a mission to end the male before I let go. I bit and tore and bit and tore, deaf and numb to all the voices and fists.
I was ill with fury. Someone had to pay for the rage inside me. Aylin’s scent was on this guy and I had to peel it off even if it meant defleshing the f*cker.
I felt him began to convulsed beneath my claws. Another set of hoovebeats raced towards us. The male’s claws started to sink back inside when Aylin’s cries floated into my mind.
‘Stop it, you’ll kill him.‘
Her voice was a plea tinged with confusion and horror.

I went still but couldn’t release the male.
The smell of Aylin’s fear filled the air around me as more fists grabbed at me to let go.
