“Do you need something? You got something to say to us?” Jane snapped.
The she–wolf rose as we approached her table. So did her warrior. Without turning around, I could feel Archer beside me.
Jane was momentarily distracted by the guard’s sudden presence.
“1
“A half–blood,” the noble spat in disgust. “The fact that she’s speaking to me shows how low the Forest Moon have fallen. An omega breeder?” Her eyes landed on me, and she scoffed. Allowed to move about?”
“What the f*ck are you mumbling about? I asked you a question! Why are you staring at us? At her?” Jane seethed.
She must think she’d found an outlet for her pent–up frustration. I was a little worried about what would happen if she threw hands first.
However, I was unsure what to do, so I stood beside my friend, mildly intrigued by how this scene would play out.
Jane moved closer.
“Step back, half–blood,” her warrior warned.
“Everything okay over there?” the owner of the diner called out. “Jane. Sara.”
“It’s fine, Mrs. Martin,” I called back. “Jane, c’mon, let’s get back to work.”
I side stepped Archer so that the proud she–wolf and I were face to face again before addressing her.
“You’re obviously new in town, Miss. People don’t appreciate being stared at like that around here.”
“Oh, Fate! The omega is talking to ?” she seemed utterly disgusted.
“You think because your Alpha was between your legs, you can address me?” Her eyes brightened in rage.
“I can address you because he was between my legs, I bore him a child, and also THIS!” I pulled down my collar to show off Nick’s mark.
Her fury rose all around us like someone had just turned up the thermostat. Her eyes shone brighter.

The reaction was so satisfying that I forgot Jane would be shocked.
“Your eyes,” she gasped.
The angry female ignored her observation but blinked back her wolf’s eyes. Her mouth was set in a thin line. Her focus was on me, eyes filled with hate.
“You know, if this is the Night Storm, I’d carve that mark out of your neck with my claws. That’ll teach you your place. You weak little shit!”
I couldn’t let the b!t€h think she could intimidate me. This wasn’t middle school. I would not be bullied. I was fated mate to a powerful Alpha.
I took a step closer, making sure my tone matched hers as I replied,
“Well, this isn’t Night Storm lands. You’re in the Forest Moon. And a weak one like me can have you tossed out like yesterday’s trash!”
“Let’s take this outside, shall we?” Archer gritted, resuming his position with one hand in front
of me.
When I glanced around, I realized a few people, including the town’s lone omega, sat at different ends of the small restaurant. All of them were staring at us.
Mr. Sloan, the aloof omega, watched the show with mouth hanging open. Jane looked like she would faint now as she regarded the female.
“C’mon, gurl, let’s head back to work.”
“Did you see her eyes?” Jane breathed.
I ignored the question, deciding to worry about explanations later.
“Boast all you want,” the girl said. “Enjoy his attention while it lasts. You’re nothing but his whore and that’s all you’ll ever be. Many, both inside and outside your pack, will make it so.” She gave a bitter smile.
Her words momentarily hit a nerve. The fact that many would not tolerate an Alpha mating an omega was not lost to me.
“Here’s the thing, I have my Alpha’s full attention now. That’s all that matters. You and others who hate it can go hang!” I replied.
She looked like she would strike me. At the same time, Lindsey entered the diner again and approached swiftly like she was coming to attack.

Her guard braced himself to defend her.
“I’m guessing you haven’t spoken to your father in the last twelve or fourteen hours, Miss Kai? “Lindsey said.
Miss Kai.
I should’ve known. This was the Celia Kai. Alpha Lazarus‘ daughter.
Nick’s ex.
No. He said she didn’t count as an ex.
I watched her confused frown as she regarded Lindsey.
“Alpha Lazarus doesn’t know you’re here, does he?” She rephrased the question.
“State your point, gamma!” She snapped.
“You have trespassed,” Lindsey clipped. “You can not leave this town now!”
“What?” Her warrior growled.
Celia looked like she’d just swallowed a frog.-
“You wouldn’t dare,” she hissed. “I am Celia of the Night Storm. Betrothed to your Alpha, Nickolas Reign.”
I had an overwhelming urge to bring out my weak, tiny claws and slash her face. I knew such a declaration was nothing but her delusion. Nevertheless, it was aggravating as hell.
Mrs. Martin had left her counter and now approached us in quick strides. She seemed upset.
“Your partner has been detained,” Lindsey said to her warrior. “Your car has been removed. Now, let’s walk out of here quietly-”
”
‘Jane. Sara. The rest of you strange people. I’m afraid I have to ask you all to leave. You’re causing a scene. Get out before I call the police!”
No one replied. Jane stood ummoving, assessing the she–wolf. Later, she would claim that what she saw was a contact lens. I would agree with her.
“Sure, Mrs. Martin. Sorry for the trouble. We’re leaving now,” I said. No one was going to reply.
“Jane, c’mon.” I grip my friend by the arm of her jacket.
Archer was beside me still. Lindsey’s eyes were locked on Celia’s guard.

Were they really going to fight in here?
“Did you hear me? I said get out,” Mrs. Martin snapped when the others wouldn’t move.
Celia’s gaze turned to her and offer a fake smile. Then she lifted her purse and started to leave. Her gamma followed her.
We reached the exit at the same time.
“You’re in my way,” she snarled.
“No, you’re in mine. Step aside,” I replied, moving past her and exiting the small restaurant before her.
In another life, the warmth dripping all around her would have scared me. She was raging inside. I would bet it had nothing to do with losing Nick, but more to do with the fact that a common omega” stood up to her.

“When did you get that birth mark on your neck? Or is it a hickey?” Jane asked once we were inside my car.
“Did you see her eyes. Something’s not right, Sara. What type of contact lens ARE those?”
I felt bad for her. She was already doubting her sanity before the quarrel began. I didn’t wish to make it worse.
“I’ll explain later.”
That was the same strategy I used whenever my son asked a tough question.
‘Like Alex, Jane was insistent. “Why not now?”
“We’ve overstayed our breaktime,” I replied simply, getting the car in gear and cutting into the street.
Archer nodded my way. Two other Forest Moon warriors stood talking with Celia and her guard.
“Did you see her eyes? What kind of contacts are those?” Jane repeated.
“A very expensive kind, I’ll bet,” I replied.
I could see her looking at me from my peripheral vision. The car was silent for a moment. Then she said,
“You’re rich now, Sara. Think you can hook me up? I like them. The contacts.”

I ignored her. Thoughts played in my head of how I could get her to shed blood while taking a life? Maybe kill a deer for meat. Or even a possum.
“We should go hunting sometime,” I said under my breath.
That would awaken her wolf and was certainly the only way she could ever get that kind of ” contact lens.”
