Chapter 0159
“Your pup, Rowan, huh. If you’re here to see him, you should be in his house and not here, scolding me.’
“I also have a grandpup whom you’re keeping here instead of moving him home already!” She barked.
“Mother, wherever the three of us are, together, that’s home.”
“So what? You’ll live together without the proper rite?”
I ignored the remark. I didn’t know if she was referring to the cleansing rites or a mating ceremony. It was still unclear if she had come to terms with the fact that Sara was her younger Luna.
“I came because I heard gossip from the elites of the Night Storm. They’re not taking the rumors very well, Nick. Lazarus will not stand to see you make an omega your Luna when you were betrothed to his daughter. The female is still unmated and he blames you. He will do something about it,” she said.
Correct. But I wasn’t going to discuss this with her. I didn’t want anyone but my brothers to
see that I was bothered by that Alpha’s presence.
The male was now a threat. The fact that he flew all the way here to talk me out of mating Sara was disturbing. I needed to find out if that Jayden guy had said anything.
“So you came to warn me, huh?” I scoffed.
“Yes, I came to warn you. If you had taken your calls, I wouldn’t even be here.”
“Where would you be? With your lost–but–found puppy?”
I didn’t know why I was taunting her. Was it to distract myself from the troubling feeling inside me. Maybe I was still mad at her about the bizarre secret she kept all those years.
My respect for her had dropped after I learned about the sergeant.
“You shouldn’t be here, mother,” I said again when she went silent.
‘She’s right though. Lazarus is a threat, Jake said.
‘I know. He made the wrong move coming here to show his displeasure,‘ I replied.
‘He has one hour to get out.‘
As we reached the penthouse, I slowed my strides, letting myself recall the words of my

father.
“Follow your instinct. Attack first.”
I knew what I had to do. I just needed that warrior to confirm what I already knew.

The older male checked out of his suite minutes after we talked. Richard’s guy reported that he was at Tree Ridge, the town bothering Fairview.
They were keeping an eye on him till he entered his own city.
Jake and I sat in my study now, planning the business and physical side of an attack. We already initiated the former. The latter required more tangible proof that he meant harm. It was necessary so that I didn’t alienate the Alphas Peace Council or hurt our other alliances.
At past 2 AM, my gamma’s call came in again.
“I just touched down,” he said.
“Great. Check on our guest before coming down here,” I replied.
I was glad. We weren’t expecting him for another hour.
“I’m heading there. Just got a call from Lindsey. Jayden escaped. One of our own is hurt.”
Those words sent all kinds of images into my mind, causing a chill to run through me.
“I’m heading there!” I breathed and hung up.
Jake was already up on his feet. He heard the conversation. Without a single word, we swiftly exited the resort the same way I came in earlier.
Letting my wolf out, I sprinted towards Sara’s.
She’s not in danger. They’re safe. Lorenzo and Caspia are there.
I kept singing these assurances in my head as we raced towards that side of the little town.
Soon, as we drew nearer to her little house, I began to believe the words. The inside of the house was quiet. They were all asleep. I could feel Sara and my little one.
These confirmations were followed by Richard’s distant call through the open link,
‘They got him,‘ he announced. ‘He didn’t get far. I’m close to the cell now.‘
I exhaled in relief and began to slow down when I realized Jake had stopped running. He

stood motionless a few feet back as if he were rooted to that spot. Something had his
attention in the woods.
Someone, not something. A sleepwalker?
‘No, no, no, no…‘ he cried.
His voice was that of real fear as his gaze stayed fixed on the sleepwalker.
