Chapter 0155
Only business or werewolf politics brought me to this side of the dark web. Or the human social media. Scrolling the pages always reminded me of how daft and infuriating people. could be, humans and non–humans alike.
My son and I were still trending. So was the speculation about the “mystery female who bore the Alpha heir.” Some called him the prince.
Outsiders didn’t yet know Sara’s identity. Pack members were scared of leaking her name, and no wolf would risk coming into another’s territory to spy.
Except Lazarus, of course. The audacity!
I launched wolve–net social to find that it was the same. The first post I saw: Alpha–heir, little Xander’s mother, is rumored to be an omega.
I scrolled past without checking the comments. A few more scrolling, and I found the reason for the Night Storm’s Alpha’s visit.
Sara was spot on when she said there would be rumors about me and Celia. Our fathers did business together, hunted together, even stood against their enemies together. Everyone did expect that we would be mated.
Pictures of me and the noble black–eyed female stare back at me from my phone. It was a photoshopped image with a large X between us and the text:
“Not happening, huh?”
“Alpha Nick has peculiar taste.” “Celia of the Night Storm is not Forest Moon’s choice.”
“Forest Moon’s Alpha heir looks about three or four years old. Was Celia ever in the picture?”
These posts were all borne from mere rumors. Why did her father look like I disgraced his child?
I put the phone back in my pocket and went around Sara’s house. I wanted to loiter about before returning to deal with that Alpha and my mother.
As I sauntered into the woods, I let my senses race ahead, checking the place for foreigners. Where I stood bore my territorial marks. I’d put it there when Sara moved out of the pent house. It was a stone throw from the house, so I had marked the place to keep strangers away, especially on nights like these.
As I took another step, I caught the distinct sound of scuffling. Amidst the distant howls and moans, barking and growling filled the air.

Two werewolves were fighting to the death not far from here.
And I knew one of them.
A call sounded in the open mindlink as I registered the gamma in battle. Lindsey screamed out to her partner for assistance.
I rushed swiftly to the scene to find two pure white wolves snarling, circling each other, bracing for the next attack. One larger than the female. Both had blood stains on their brows,
claws, and the corner of their mouth.
The intruder scented me before I showed myself. He backed away, taking off into the night. But he wasn’t fast. At least not enough to outrun me.
Within moments, I had him pinned to the tree beneath my boot as he struggled to get free. His claws dug into my leg, drawing blood while he struggled to breathe.
Lindsey, her partner, and Tony caught up with us minutes later. They restrained the large
werewolf as I lifted my boot off his throat.
“Shift,” Tony barked at him.
But he didn’t have to. This was no mere passerby. He was a Night Storm gamma. I caught the near invisible mark of his pack on his left shoulder. He was not just a warrior but the second in command to the Alpha’s own chief gamma.
‘Alpha Nick, you know who I am. Jayden. A warrior of the Night Storm. I was roaming the
woods when the she–wolf attacked me.’
‘He was snooping around, Alpha. He was spying at the house,‘ Lindsey barked.
‘The house? What house?‘ he feigned confusion.
I knew he was lying.
“Why did you run when you saw me?” I asked him.
‘Because your warrior attacked me. We were fighting. I feared you’d get the wrong idea.‘
“You were right to fear. Your Alpha is in town with his gamma. Why aren’t you with them?”
‘I came out for fresh air!‘
What the fuck was a Night Storm warrior doing near the house where my mate lived?
“Did you say he was snooping around the house?” I asked Lindsey.

‘Yes, Alpha. He was watching the house when I saw him,‘ she replied.
‘She’s confused, Alpha Nick. I was enjoying the full moon night in the woods. It’s much calmer here than Jefferson, you know that. I was looking for a female. To get laid. She saw me and attacked with asking questions.‘
The perfect lie. Racing in the woods looking girls? Near Sara’s house?
“I take it you didn’t see those marks on that tree?” I pointed at the trunk a few yards away.
His sight was better than the average wolf so I expected him to see it.
The sign meant no werewolves or other supernatural creatures could roam near that point. Much like the one at my backyard, it was visible enough.
‘I didn’t see it,‘ he lied.
‘But we are friends, are we not? We have a pact. Alpha Lazarus would not be pleased about
this attack.’
“I’m sure he would not. That’s why no one will tell him.” I knelt so we were eye to eye. His fear rose, a soft whine escaping his throat.
“These guys here will borrow YOU for the night. They’ll ask what you’re doing on this side of the woods again. Don’t worry, they’ll be polite. And you? You will tell them the truth this time. Because we are friends! Are we not?”
I rose as Tony and the others seized and dragged him away.
