Chapter 0154
Nick POV
“Avery is not your enemy, Nick,” Sara said softly.
“He’s your brother.”
I wasn’t referring to the sergeant when I said possible enemy. But it’s a good thing she thought I was. It meant her mind was off our visitor now.
“I guess you’re right. He’s not an enemy,” I replied with a shrug.
What the f*ck was the Alpha of the Night Storm doing in town? Oh, but I knew.
Sara was so right about the male. He had come here to spy on my family. The fact that he came by himself was troubling. For both pack’s sake, I hoped that spying was all he had
come here to do.
“Do you think your mother came to warn you about that male? I think she’s here to see Avery,”
Sara went on.
She seemed happy at the thought that mother and her lost son were seeing each other.
“Guess I’m about to find out why the Senior Luna is in town,” I muttered.
Although, family drama was something I didn’t care to think about yet.
Perhaps I should visit the little bro of mine. Make him tell me why he was in my backyard tonight. The only problem was the fact that bothering the brave one wasn’t high on my list of priorities right now. Dealing with Lazarus came first.
“He’s a good guy, Nick,” Sara murmured. “An honorable male. If you two would give each other a chance, I think you’ll find you’re quite alike.”
“Well, we like the same girl, so,” I shrugged again.
“Liked. That’s in the past now,” she remarked.
Yes, it was. My female was mine and no other’s. I didn’t know if my opinion of the sergeant would improve once I knew him better. But I admitted it was a brave and honorable thing to go after Sara the way he did when he thought she was in trouble. I respected him for that. P.s, I would never say that out loud.
The truth was that bravery was an expected trait for the half–blood. His wolf gene was a good one. He came from a long line of powerful gammas, thanks to Elise.

As Sara and I said our good nights, I was thrilled that she was utterly unbothered the night’s brief drama at the resort lobby. Her happiness overshadowed that and made my heart feel full. The fact that she felt entirely safe was downright gratifying.
She hadn’t even dwelt on the conversation about our visitor. Which meant she trusted my protection completely. What a high that gave me.
As I made my way across her humble living room, I recalled how she carried herself in front of the older male earlier. She was more perfect and noble than any female I knew.
No matter what anyone said, regardless of her social status, Sara was Luna. Both inside and out. Period. She was naturally poised and refined. More than worthy to be the pack’s first she- wolf.
Lorenzo stood near the door with his head bowed. As I strode across the room, the place suddenly felt too small and vulnerable. What I felt was not uneasiness. It was close to it though.
I already informed the guards on duty that I didn’t trust the visiting Alpha. They were all on high alert. I should’nt worry, but my instincts were restless for some reason.
I stopped at the door to look about the small house. Then moved to the window to check its strength even though it was pointless.
Sebastian stood at his bedroom door regarding me.
Maybe I should relocate all three of them to the penthouse tonight. Sara was agreeable, and her father understood the safety concerns. But he would refuse. I knew he agreed to stay at the new house because I didn’t live there.
Discarding the idea, I told myself that Sara already agreed to move to the new house tomorrow. I mustn’t push my luck. They would be alright. Tonight was the last time I would worry about this cramped space.
The people on guard were all experienced Forest Moon warriors, handpicked by Richard. And I trusted my gamma.
‘They’re safe here.‘
I caught Sebastian’s assuring whisper and looked his way.
“Don’t worry,” he said aloud.
Nodding once, I proceeded out the door.

My engagement with Celia ended four years ago. Barely two months after we were introduced. Like the other two betrothals after it, we were discreet. No one ever saw us together.
Why the f*ck was her father here and acting like I dishonored him?
I reached for my phone and turned it on as I descended the porch of Sara’s little house. Emails and messages flooded in as soon as the phone came on. Half of them were business- related. I would deal with those when I settled down.
Skipping all of the messages, including the ones from my mother and sister, I clicked on Richard’s.
He dropped a voicemail, telling me what I had already found out. He would be in town before 3 AM, which was soon. According to my gamma, our warriors were all aware and keeping an eye on Alpha Lazarus.
Apparently, he flew in with his Chief Gamma alone. But that didn’t mean he hadn’t brought other company. I recalled my mother’s words that he was pissed.
Yeah, considering Alex’s age, I expected that he was. But why come all the way when his daughter and I were no longer involved.
I launched wolve–net to check if people were saying anything interesting about me and his pack.
Like the human internet, the news was full of uninteresting garbage, useless gossip, and fear mongering about the coming solar eclipse.
