A few days ago.
Nick POV
Somehow, I knew it was not wise to try to talk Sara out of her resolve yet. She was angry, frustrated and confused. Plus, I was unsure what to say to make things right between us. So I stayed silent till she got on the jet, telling myself to give her time.
I quickly returned to dealing with the business of the day once she was gone. Within the next few hours as expected, photos of me and my little one were on TV and social media. It lifted my mood a little.
It was hard to feel anything but free and light. My heart wouldn’t stop fluttering. Last night had a lot to do with that part. Although the feeling was mixed with relentless anxiety over the fact that Sara was determined to keep hating me.
She did not want to want me and I was clueless on how to change that, even though I had marked her. She meant to keep fighting her feelings. Which would put a strain on her general wellbeing.
How did I prevent that if she refused to see or talk to me till the full moon? If I returned to Orphic and stayed near her, it could lessen the pressure for both of us.
But pack members were outraged and Jake advised that it was better to address them today.

I rose from my desk to stare out the window. My eyes settled on the spot where I saw Sara for the first time. I let myself relive that day and other precious times that we shared afterwards.
The sound of her giggles. My name on those lips. Her pliant body on top of me. I recalled her soft, sleeping form against me last night. How she tasted. Goddess, I wanted all of it. Forever and always.
Voices filtered through the walls into the study, disrupting my daydreams.
It was my beta, arguing with my gamma about his sister. He wanted her application into the Warrior Training Programme declined. It was better if she worked at the new park or go to New Zealand, he argued.
I was not the least bit interested in that discussion, so I resumed my daydreaming. Time crawled by like a snail.

The arguing stopped much later and I sensed the two coming up the stairs. Jake knocked moments later before popping his head inside.
“It’s almost time, Nick. Alex is awake. Janice is getting him ready.”
I nodded.
Instead of leaving, he opened the door wider and entered. I knew what he meant to ask me. I hadn’t yet voiced my intentions because Sara hadn’t forgiven me for the past.
“I’ve got a question,” he said, flopping on the chair across from me.
“Is Sara going to be my new Luna?”
He sounded like a child asking if his father’s girlfriend was going to be his new mom. Richard seemed to be waiting for my answer too.
“She doesn’t want me,” I said under my breath.
I wished he’d offer advice on that but he was clueless about these things too. Moments passed before he said,
“I ask cuz I heard you didn’t didn’t allow the ceremonial cleansing yesterday. I told myself your couldn’t wait to have her, that’s why. But I think I’m wrong.”
“The cleansing isn’t necessary, Jake. How could it when they’re not actually fated,” Richard said with a sigh.
“The Luna made it all up so the little one would be acceptable. Isn’t that right, Alpha?”
Uh oh.
The room went silent. Jake and I exchanged looks. My gamma’s eyes bulged as the realization hit.
“No way,” he gasped, rising from the couch.
“You’re fated for real? That is it. I quit! You two never tell me anything. I am done.”
“Sit down, Richard.”
“Yes, Alpha,” He lowered himself back on the couch.
Another moment of silence followed.
“I should’ve mentioned it. My bad,” Jake muttered.

“No, it’s my mistake. I should’ve told you,” I said. “Don’t know why I assumed you knew.”
“It all makes sense now,” he murmured, nodding thoughtfully.
I didn’t care to know what he meant, so I didn’t ask. My mother had said the same thing.
What mattered right now was dealing with pack members and making sure my loved ones were safe from anyone’s evil intentions.
“I’m aware that the pack may not take it well when they learn about Sara. I won’t pretend that
I’m not worried about that, not in front of you two.
Richard, there will be times when business takes me far from home. As my number one warrior and my brother, I need you to promise that you would keep them safe at all times.”
His face grew solemn as he stood up again. With his left hand on his chest, he declared,
“You can count on me, Alpha. I vow to protect your family from harm at all times.”
“Thank you,” I said gently.
More silence.
It was Jake who broke it this time.
“Alpha, what do you think of Aylin working at the new park?”
Richard rolled his eyes and let his head fall back on the couch. I tried my best to appear
interested.
Nodding, I said, “Yeah, sounds cool.”
Another round of argument began between the two.
I tuned them out as my mind returned to its favorite place. Person.
