Chapter 0135
Sara POV
“No. Stop, Avery. I’m not leaving with you. He’s not holding me against my will. How long have you known he’s your brother?”
As I asked again, I turned around to look at Nick. He stood by the door, watching the both of
Us.
“It doesn’t matter, Sara,” Avery replied impatiently.
“How can you say that? You always complained that I opened up. If you’re my son’s father’s brother, don’t you think that’s something I should’ve known when you found out? I thought I was your girlfriend.”
“Was?” He asked with a frown. “What do you mean was? I didn’t tell you because I wasn’t ready. I haven’t told anyone. You ARE my girlfriend, Sara?”
He looked nervously at Nick as he said this.
“I was poisoned. Kinkbane. Ever heard of that?”
Nick hadn’t given me the full details. All he told me was the name of the poison I sniffed from
the flower.
Avery’s eyes widened as his mouth fell open.
“So when you said you were coming to see me,”
“Yeah, that’s why!” I replied with an edge.
His brow creased in disappointment, and his anger seemed to return.
“You slept with him.” he gasped.
It wasn’t a question, but I was growing more upset by the second, so I said,
“Yes, I slept with him. Can you see how I didn’t keep that from you?”
He ignored the question. “You were coming to meet me. Elise got in the way. She brought you here instead. And that opportunitistic jerk! He took advantage of you, Sara.”
“He didn’t take advantage of me, Avv. It’s just one–time sex. And I. used. him, not the other way round, okay? But none of that matters now.”
“You have his mark. You realize he wants to keep you here as a sex slave, don’t you?”

Lignored the question like he did mine.
“Listen, I’m sorry you got dragged into my problems. I appreciate you looking out for me. But I don’t want you to have any more troubles on my account. You need to leave. And don’t worry
about me from now on.”
“Unbelievable.” He threw his hands up. “I came out here because I was worried about you. You spent the night with him and you’re ending it with me? Because you didn’t know about me and Elise, or that’s just an excuse?”
“An excuse for what? What’s that supposed to mean? Elise Reign is your mother, Avery. I think it’s clear why you flew out here. And it’s NOT because of me.”
He shook his head and stepped back.
“Wow. You know what? You’re right, I shouldn’t have come.”
At the same time, Mae approached purposefully.
“It’s time to leave, sergeant. The Alpha’s kindness can extend no further than this,” she said.
He didn’t wait for her to finish before turning away from me.
I sank on top of the nearest bench as the small crowd by the door dispersed.
Nick still waited with his back, now leaning against the door. Alex had wandered off to play near the tree while Janice stuck close.
As I watched Avery’s retreating figure, I decided they were all the same. Him, Nick, Elise. Controlling. Domineering. Selfish. Blood was thicker than water, after all.
He hadn’t come here merely to rescue me. He came here to defy the mother who abandoned him. And taunt the brother that was favored over him.
Why else would he keep it from me that they were related? He called me his girlfriend.
When I looked at Nick, he was still watching me, waiting.
My gaze moved to my son playing in the distance and I let myself focus on him for a moment. It occured to me that somehow, I had missed this place. The smell and entire colorful view. I missed running my fingers across the flowers while walking home to our cottage. Even though the ending was bad, the place was home.
But all of that was a former reality. It was time to return to the safe life my dad and I had built.
I watched Alex jump and caught a tree branch, swinging happily.
