Chapter 0111
Sara POV
My phone beeped again. I checked and saw the Alpha’s name on the screen. Grabbing it, I toss it into my desk drawer out of sight.
Did the almighty Nickolas Reign plan on texting me the whole day?
All of those messages and not even a word of sorry for harassing me the way he did the night before.
My desk phone rang, and I jumped, half wishing and half fearing it was him still. But it was Lori at the reception.
“What’s up?”
“Package for you,” she replied.
“Ok… send them up.”
What package? From whom could it be? Moments later, the question was answered.
The delivery boy emerged from the elevator with his helmet still on. In his hand was a beautifully wrapped single white rose. A small fanciful card was attached.
“Miss James?” He asked.
“Yes.”
Maybe this was the apology I so expected. The butterflies in my stomach intensified as I reached out to receive the gift.
Ignoring the knowing smiles on my colleagues‘ faces, I started to detach the card, too eager to see what it said.
On it was written:
“Smile. We’re okay.”
A heart shape was perfectly scrawled below the text. Followed by the name Avery.
“Why? What does it say? You look disappointed,” Jane tapped at my desk.
“No, I don’t!” I argued, forcing a smile.
Of course, it made more sense for Avery to send me a rose rather than the cocky Alpha.

“Avery,” Mia called out from behind me, intentionally letting everyone know who sent the gift.
“Good for you. He’s a catch,” she added.
I unwrapped the single rose and sniffed, shutting my eyes to take in its fragrance. I must’ve overdone it because my nose got itchy, and I went into a sneezing fit.
“Bless you,” Justin called out. “If I sent my girl flowers, she don’t sneeze.”
I rolled my eyes at him while retrieving my phone.
Ignoring the blinking message button, I dialled Avery’s number.
“Hey. Did you get to work OK? Hope my uncle didn’t give you any trouble?”
“Yeah, no, he didn’t. Everything’s fine here, and I just got the rose. It’s beautiful,” I said.
“What rose?”
“The… one you sent me. It just got delivered. That’s why I’m calling you,” I replied.
“Sara, I didn’t send you anything!”
After the call to my boyfriend, I repackaged the mysterious gift and took it to Lorenzo. Work stole most of my attention afterwards.
Apart from the initial sneezing, I didn’t feel sick or weird from touching the lone flower.
Not long after I dropped it with the guard, we had to go to the site to monitor the clearing.
They were now making the walk paths and building guard posts at different points.
The project was moving much faster than we all expected. It made me wonder what would happen with the Nick situation once the park was completed.
Then I recalled his words about taking me and Alex with him the next time he flew out of here. That declaration was a part of our encounter that I’d refused to process till now. Whatever he meant, I would find out when the time came.
Meg was at the site too with Mr. Duncan. The latter was very friendly as usual. So were all the other guys from Reign construction. Ninety per cent of whom were humans.
As we went about with the work, I would occasionally catch Meg staring hard at me. Then she’d looked away and acted like she was writing stuff on her jotter.

A few hours passed. I began to grow impatient with everything. The sight of the laborers. clearing out the bushes and unwanted shrubs. Megan, smiling at something Mr. Duncan. said. The ash tree, leaning sideways because someone tried to cut it off by mistake. These things made me so irritable that I started to feel itchy.
The ticking sound of my wristwatch became a source of great irritation too. I looked at it and realized that we had somehow missed lunch. That must be the problem, though I was not hungry at all. Not for food, at least.
I wanted to get back home immediately, but I also felt like going for a run.
A painful wave of restlessness descended on me as I tried to decide what to do. Something
was wrong.
“We’re taking a short break,” someone announced.
It was Jose. He lived not far from us and was in charge of the laborers. His announcement brought no relief.
The simple, ordinary act of him taking off his helmet sent a light tingle down my belly button.
‘What the…‘
I couldn’t finish the thought because the feeling began to spread through me. My whole body began to warm till I grew physically uncomfortable.
“You ok?” He asked. I nodded in response.
“You’re sweating,” Mia said as she joined us.
“Feeling hot,” I replied almost breathlessly. Too hot for a cool autumn day.
The ticklish feeling was back below my abdomen, and as it started to spread again, it moved downwards to rest between my inner thighs.
“Should we head to your dad’s?” Mia asked. “I think I’ll head to your dad’s.”
“I’ll go back to the office to start working on the report,” I said.
