Chapter 0109
Nick POV
Too many things had my attention all at once.
Among them was the fact that the second meeting with the council of elders had just ended, and the Chief was not making a move to leave. The message from Richard that Derek, Orphic’s new police chief, a Forest Mooner had settled the matter with sergeant brave. The file that contained details of the same sergeant sat staring at me.
Add to these was the fact that all my calls to Sara had gone unanswered.
Shouldn’t she expect an explanation or apology for last night. Maybe she did, but just wont talk to me.
“I wanted to tell you not to worry about anything,” Chief Alaric said.
“I’m not worried, Chief.”
Or my worries laid somewhere else. With someone. Not the pack or what they thought.
“You’ve got a lot on your plate now. The elders get it. They agree that Miss Whites deserves the harshest punishment for crimes against your family.
Our only concern is the little one. We need to settle some things before going public. Also, when will he come home?”
I was mildly shocked by his acceptance. Then it occured to me that he hadn’t yet mentioned my son’s mother.
“Ask me what mean to ask, Chief,” I said impatiently.
“The girl, I mean the pup’s mother.” He paused to swallow.
“Luna Chase is very happy to receive her in New Zealand. Gold Crescent pack will never marginalize her…”
He trailed off, lowering his head at the look on my face.
“You talked to my sister, huh? What did you tell her? That I need to hide the mother of my child with her?”
“Your mother spoke to her, not me. But we learned you already told her everything. The young Luna is excited to receive them both-”
“Them both?” I knew he wasn’t referring to my son.

“The girl… and her boyfriend,” the Chief replied hesitantly.
“You and my mother think you have everything figured out, huh? Send the girl who bore me my pup far far away WITH another male. You need to maintain the pack’s image so bad.
Let me ask you something. What if I remove the male? Will that change your plans?”
“Young Alpha, killing the girl’s boyfriend will do-”
“I’ve heard enough from you for the day, Chief Alaric. And listen, my father spoke highly of you when he was with us. I respect you and hope that never changes.
Sara’s not going anywhere, not with another male. Don’t ever hint at that in front of me again!
The next time you and the Luna sit down to plot, leave her and my child out of it! They’re my concern and mine alone!”
I rose, signalling he had to leave. He looked pained as he opened his mouth to say something. But he closed it, giving the customary bow before walking out of the door.
I would deal with Elise later. For now, sergeant brave was at the center of my to–do list.
How do I make him disappear? Why does everyone think it’s a bad idea.
Last night, I’d lost control and came close to marking Sara. The only thing I felt sorry for was failing.
If I had succeeded, things would be different today. She would yearn for me. Oh, but she did want me, even if it was only a tiny part of her. I felt it when she was in my arms.
I was deep in these thoughts when Sara’s name popped on my screen. I eagerly snatched the phone from my desk like a pathetic fool to read the message.
“You don’t happen to know why the Luna is having me followed, do you? Can you put a stop to it? I can only handle one babysitter/stalker at a time!” It read.
“You’re almost laughing. What’s funny?” Jake walked in, flopping on the seat in front of me.
“What? Nothing,” I replied with my eyes on my screen.
Stalking? Did she know I followed her in my free time? Or was she merely referring to the guards assigned to protect her and my son?
I started to type my reply.
“About last night, I lost control. I want you…”

I backspaced quickly. She didn’t need my explanation, and frankly, I had none. I was not going to apologise either. So instead, I typed:
‘Are you sure one is all you can handle? You’re handling more than one male at a time. I’m sure you can put up with more than one guard keeping you safe!”
“You haven’t opened the file, Nick,” Jake said.
“Yeah,” I murmured absently.
Seconds after I hit send, Sara’s reply popped in. All caps.
“YOU’RE THE RAESON WE NEED PROTEVTNG IN THE FIRST PLACE! AND WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN MORE THAN ONE MAEL AT A TYM? THERE’S NOTHING GOING ON BTW U

The misspelt words were proof that I had triggered her. I couldn’t help grinning at the texts.
“Who are you texting? Damn it! I sound like a jealous lover!
You need to look at the file, Nick.”
I ignored my beta this time and kept typing.
