Chapter 0106
Sara POV
I was no longer pinned against the open door. Nick’s large arms enveloped me as his low grunt resonated in my ear.
When he slowed the kiss moments ago, his eyes had that fierce shimmer that hinted at what was about to follow.
Yet I couldn’t bring myself to push him away.
When his lips took hold of mine again and I felt the sharp tips of his wolf’s teeth, I wanted to protest.
But he’s too large. Too strong. I couldn’t push him off me if I tried.
These were all excuses as his lips travelled down my throat. Though I had no excuse for kissing him back with so much hunger. Maybe I was the drunk.
He nuzzled my neck, sucking in a deep breath.
‘You belong with me.’
The whisper drifted from his mind to mine. They were a soft caress to my soul.
Without meaning to, I leaned back further, giving him better access.
Once upon a time, this moment was all I dreamed about.
But wasn’t that in a separate life? Goddess! Was I about to allow this?
My brain wouldn’t get my other senses to fight the unthinkable act.
“Nick…”
My plea followed the first, slight graze of his teeth. He ran his tongue across the spot where his mark would be. My body went limp in his arms, ready for the rest of the rite.
Then came a flood of water!
It fell upon us with such great force that I yelped and Nick jerked. An ice cold deluge that felt like the first rain in spring.
“F*cking hell!” He cursed.
With arms still around me and water dripping from our faces down, he mindlinked,

I started to push him away when he pulled back, covering his mouth with both hands like he’d only just realized what he almost did.
His eyes still shone as he stared at back at me. Then he backed away a few steps.
“You leave my daughter alone!” My father panted, his voice hot with rage.
Nick snarled, causing the large empty bowl to slip from his grasp.
But my dad did not cower despite the obvious fear in his eyes. His voice shook as he repeated,
“Leave my daughter alone! She told you to stay away, didn’t she? Sara, go inside!”
My brain resumed their normal duties at the sound of that command.
If only the ground would open up and swallow me right now. All I could do was race into my
room.
“No. Wait. Sara!” Nick called out after me.
“I’m calling 911,” my dad bellowed.
“Can’t let you do that, Mr. James, sorry!” That was Lorenzo’s voice.
I wanted to go back out and make sure he didn’t manhandling my dad. But my legs felt wobbly.
“He’ll leave in a moment,” the guard added.
My heart wouldn’t stop the thumping. A knock sounded on the door at the same time, making me jump.
It was insistent, and I knew who was there even before he called out to me.
“Sara!
“Sara! Open the door. I wanna tell you something!”
“Go away!” I yelled.
“I will. Just open the door. I need to explain myself. I lost… Oh, hey Alex! What are you doing awake? Your mommy wouldn’t like this.”
Great. We woke the child. It was all Nick’s fault.
I went to the door but sank down to the floor with my hand on the knob.

Going out there was out of the question for now. Nick attacked Avery and almost marked me. And I would’ve let him. I was appalled. How would I face my dad.
I’d let him kiss me like that, the same day his engagement was made public.
“Sara!” Bang bang!
“Alex is awake. Could you come send him back to bed. It’s your turn with him.”
I glared at the door. How childish.
The place soon grew oddly quiet, and I pushed my ear to the door, listening to the low voices.
The guard was saying something to my dad, but Nick’s voice was what I listened for. He was talking to Alex now.
“Your mommy wouldn’t like this. C’mon. Let me get you back to bed. Sorry about all the yelling. We were…”
The voice grew distant, and the words became vague. My dad and the guard remained in the living room. I could feel them. But Nick had taken Alex back into his room.
Avery. I needed to call him. It was my fault he got attacked.
When I brought out the phone, my messages were still open.

This photo made me drag Avery to the bar and into my troubles. All I wanted was to forget all things Nick for just one moment. But that was too much to ask, huh?
My father’s short text sat beneath the image.
“You may never see this if I don’t show it to you. His Luna–to–be will not be pleased that Alex exists. We need to think of something fast.”
Like the first time, when the message first came into my phone, my heart was in my stomach. My knees felt weak from nausea.
I sat on my bed with the phone in my hand. What was he thinking when he kissed me? How could he have tried to mark me?
I clicked the delete button and threw the phone behind me. Forcing myself to my feet, I went to wash up and changed into my night clothes.

The sick feeling inside me felt like the time I saw him kissing Megan.
I knew he was involved with someone. Hell, I’ve seen her face before now. Why did I still feel this ill from a mere photo? The fact that he’d just put his hand on me didn’t help.
A knock came on my door again. It was softer this time, and I thought it was my dad.
I approached hesitantly to open it when Nick called out,
“Sara!
I sent Alex back to bed. And I’m going away like you asked. I’m not engaged!”
Bang bang!
“Do you hear me? I’m not engaged. I came to tell you that. I have to leave for the city tonight cuz I’m still working out stuff. But remember what I told you last time. I’m taking the both of you the next time I fly out of Orphic!”
Bang bang!
“Sara?”
Bang!
“Say something or I’ll break down this door!”
“Go away!” I barked.
“Got it.”
