Chapter 0097
The sight of the joggers had me frozen on the spot until the sound of flesh slapping on flesh grew too appalling to bear.
As I started to back away, Miss Suarez lifted her head and our gazes met. I couldn’t decide if
the sound that came out of her in that moment was shock or another moan.
I turned and ran out, unsure where I was headed. It was out of the house for sure. Even if only
for a few minutes. I didn’t want to be inside this house.
Reaching the foot of the stairs, I turned the corner into the hall when I collided into someone’s large, bare chest.
Firm hands were on my arms, steadying me.
“Easy!” Nick said. His tone was urgent yet soft. “What’s wrong? What did you see? Tell me!”
“l–i…” I stammered. “Nothing.”
I was stupefied. My gaze dropped below his waist and sure enough, it was the same joggers.
“Tell me what you saw, Sara. You look startled,” he urged me.
Footsteps sounded behind, making me jump.
It was Jake with Miss Suarez behind him. He was naked to the waist and slightly sweaty.
“Mr. Reign,” Miss Suarez greeted with head held high. Like she was proud of herself instead of being ashamed. “Miss James.”
Jake bowed slightly at Nick as he walked past without a word.
Why in the hell were they wearing matching joggers? I wanted to ask but got distracted by the half–smile on Nick’s face.
Of course, he caught the smell of sex on his beta, too. But did he know that for a moment there, I thought he was the one drilling my lawyer?
“Guess I was not the only one working out tonight,” he said. “Though mine was in the gym with irons and stuff.”
As he spoke in that soft, playful tone, I became aware of his hands on my arms. When I stepped back, his fingers lingered on my flesh as he released me.
His beta was sleeping with my lawyer. I was pissed about that, right? Yes. I left and went after Jake.

“Jake!” I called out. He ignored me. “Mr. Carlisle!”
The lawyer was going to turn around when he stopped her, motioning for her to keep moving.
“Miss Suarez!”
I caught up with them as the beta was speaking.
“I’ll handle her, Misha. Don’t worry. Lot, escort Miss Suarez to her car, will you?”
Then he turned around to face. I started speaking before the lawyer got into the elevator.
“This has to be wrong! It is unethical. I will report the both of you!”
Jake scoffed. “It’s not wrong to be a horny adult, Sara James. Today has been particularly rough cuz a certain someone didn’t go to work like she should! I needed a quick lay and Misha was available. Sue me! Or do whatever the hell you like. Try reporting us, yeah? At least, now you know, I let her win that day!”
“How long has this been going on?” I barked.
He ignored me and brushed past then stopped.
Nick stood with both hands across his chest, watching us with a frown.
“You did this! You knew about this!” I pointed an accusing finger at the alpha.
“Explain what that means!” He replied.
“First, you hired my lawyer! Now he’s sleeping with the one from the agency? You’re gonna pretend like you didn’t know?–”
“Wait, that’s the other lawyer? I lost focus for a bit. Didn’t see her face,” he said.
No one was taking me seriously. I was furious because… what did this mean? Did I still have a lawyer?
Jake looked slightly embarrassed, but only because of his boss.
Nick still seemed confused as he went on.
“Believe it or not, I can’t tell my beta where to stick his rod, Sara.”
I stormed off and he followed me.
This was good. Thank Goddess I caught the beta pants down. It was helping to fuel my hatred for the Alpha.

“Sara,” he grabbed my wrist to stop me as we entered the hall. I pulled it off his grasp.
“I get why you’re upset. But I promise you, it doesn’t mean anything. He’s not sleeping with her to come after you. We’ll continue to follow all the rules of the verdict till… circumstances change things,” he said.
The words felt so earnest that I didn’t know how to respond.
“But if it’ll make you feel better, you can report them,” he added. “I don’t want you frightened or anxious about anything ever again, alright.”
What did he mean? Moments passed before I could respond,
“Thanks. I guess.”
I had the urge to say more. Like “thank you for saving us,” but I didn’t.
This side of the alpha was so confusing. Why the gentleness? He was the same way that night when he explained the Megan situation. What about all the threats and mocking that I
was used to? Where did all that go? What was going on?
The sound of footsteps disrupted the moment. It was Richard.
“Alpha,” he gave the customary bow.
“I’ve been looking for you,” I said, stepping further away from Nick.
“Oh… me too,” he replied.
“Thanks for letting me use it,” I handed him the phone.
I started to go into my room when something came to mind.
“Who sent the rogues after us? Was it her?” I was looking at Nick as I spoke. By her, they both knew exactly who I meant.
“We’ll find out for sure soon. Richard’s on top of it.” He glanced his gamma’s way. “But it’s not my mother.”
“You don’t know who did it but you’re sure it’s not her? You know my kind disgusts her, right?”
I asked.
“I do,” he replied simply.
“But I also know that the kid is her grandchild. She wouldn’t let any harm come near him.”
“I hope you’re right. But separating a mother from his child counts as doing harm to the child,

you think?”
“I don’t know much about parenting, Sara. I’ve only just begun,” he said with an edge. “What I do know is, my parents were busy people. As a child, I saw them at meal times and holidays. They got to take me out occasionally too. The nannies and househelp did most of the work.”
And we’re back to dealing with the usual, arrogant jackass!
“Is that a threat? My son can do just fine without his mother?”
He threw up his hands in frustration and breathed,
“No! I’m telling you how she thinks! Why does everything sound like a threat to you?”
I could tell Richard was starting to feel awkward as he spoke.
“Imma head out. Upstairs actually, if you need the phone again…”
He trailed off as Nick shot him a look.
*If you need a phone before yours arrive, ring 001 or knock on MY door,” Nick said firmly before turning away.
Did he think I would be here longer than this night? How deluded.
