Chapter 0093
Sara POV
I tried to blink away the grogginess as Jake led me away. I still felt weak and sleepy but had to force myself to leave that heavenly bed. I missed Alex and my dad. Seeing them both, holding them would make me sure that this nightmare was over.
That guard, Oak or something. He had never addressed me before. I was shocked by his slight bow and the gentle words. There was a hint of relief in his eyes when he saw me.
“Richard said he was indisposed,” Jake muttered with a frown. “Guess he’s better now.”
Was he talking to me or thinking out loud? I made no comment as I wasn’t sure which.
“You’ve never toured this house, huh? You should though,” he said.
“W–why are you making small talk… with me? You’re being weird.” I stammered.
He breathed a deep sigh as he replied,
“I don’t know why. All I know is my life would’ve become a million times harder if we hadn’t gotten to you when we did. Guess what I’m trying to say is…”
he stopped walking as we came close to another staircase. I did too.
“I’m glad you and little Alex are alright.”
“Thanks, beta,” I replied, feeling awkward.
That was too many gentle words from this one to me of all people. I wanted to say that he didn’t have to strain himself. But spite was unnecessary and he seemed sincere.
“C’mon. They’re both up here,” he muttered.
As we entered the massive space, my gaze went to the window first. I couldn’t help but admire the view. Nick wasn’t merely saying things when he boasted about this sight. Jake was right. I should’ve toured the house when I “lived” here. The fact that it was nightfall made it so much more wonderful.
My father had his back to the door. He turned around as we walked in.
“Mommy’s awake,” Alex called out with a grin.
As my dad approached, I went into his open arms and held him tight. His unique scent of freshly baked doughnuts and butter felt like home.

“The Alpha’s scent is on you,” he complained but didn’t let go.
I ignored the remark. Telling him that I slept all evening on Nick’s bed was a bad idea. I might as well say we had sex.
Alex came to join in, wrapping his little arms about us.
“Mommy’s awake,” he said again.
“Yes, darling. Mommy slept a lot, didn’t she?,” I said, lifting him into my arms for a tight hug.
These were the only people that mattered to me. Because of them, I was grateful to Nick for the rescue. My dad wouldn’t have survived if anything happened to us.
“How are you feeling? The doctor said you were shaken up pretty bad,” he touched a spot on my cheek.
I wondered if the bruise still hadn’t disappeared. I was a werewolf with inferior genes. But by tomorrow morning, all should be good as new with zero traces of the slaps I endured.
“I’m so glad you’re alright,” my dad said. “I’d die if anything happened to the both of you.”
“Nothing will happen, dad. We’re safe now,” I replied, squeezing his hand.
We sat and talked for a while before he announced that he had to leave.
Apparently, he’d been here all afternoon, right after we were brought in. I checked the time on the wall. It was past 9 PM.
“What a day,” I murmured.
“Tell me about it,” my dad intoned.
Minutes later, I followed him to the door as he started to leave. Jake signaled to a female guard and she came to meet us, saying,
“We’ll make sure Mr. James gets home alright, Miss. We’ll protect him.”
My father gave Jake an evil look. Did he think I was planning to leave with him? In this messy hair and robe?
I would never admit it out loud, but I felt much safer in this penthouse than I would anywhere else tonight. At least, for the rest of this awful day. Alex’s father was right here and he wouldn’t let anyone harm our child.
“I’ll call you once I’m home. And we’ll see tomorrow, right?” my dad asked.

“Of course, daddy,” I nodded. “Good night.”
Once he left, it was time to make Alex go to bed too.
“It’s past bedtime, baby wolf, c’mon.”
I took the Ipad from him as we proceeded to his room.
After tucking him in, it was time to wonder where I would sleep for the night.
My room, in the three minutes that I lived here, was just two doors down the hall. Going back in there would be presumptious, wouldn’t it?
