“Maybe drive past once you see that they’re there,” I muttered to myself.
A few metres from the truck, and my heart dropped fiercely into my stomach. Sara’s father wasn’t there. Neither was the she–wolf and the little one. I pulled over a few feet away and
headed to the counter.
The only person in the truck was the human teenage girl who worked for Sebastian sometimes. It was almost lunchtime. Busy period for the food shop. How could the owner not
be around?
“Where’s Sebastian?” I asked.
Everyone turned around to look at me. The girl behind the counter lifted her gaze, and her eyes widened slightly as her mouth slowly opened. Maybe she recognized me. I didn’t care
about that.
“Where’s your boss?” I asked impatiently.
“Uhmm… he’s a little sick, so he had to go home,” she replied.
“What do you mean a little sick?”
“He had a heart… attack. The ambulance was here not long ago. He’ll be fine, but they made him go with them,” she said. “To Mercy Medical centre.”
Was that the emergency that pulled my child out of school? But the girl just said it wasn’t serious, didn’t she?
“What about his daughter and grandson? Were they with him?”
“No, they haven’t been here today,” she replied.
My heart was thumping in my chest as I rushed back to the car.
My phone buzzed. It was Richard
“Lindsey called me,” he said in his no–nonsense voice. “I’m on my way to Sara’s hou-
“They’re not home. Sebastian’s at Mercy Medicals though.” I told him and hung up

Sara’s father was not at the hospital. Neither was the girl and our child. A growl threatened to tear itself out of my throat as I stood, confused and enraged

Only then did I decide to call Sebastian. To my surprise, he picked on the first ring.
“Where are you, Sebastian?”
“Why does alpha of the Forest Moon want to know my whereabouts? What else could you possibly want from me?” His tone was bitter and disdainful, deepening my confusion.
“Where’s my family?” I asked gently.
“Why don’t you ask your people? Unless you’re calling to tell me that you would leave my daughter and grandson in peace, please don’t ever call again!” He was going to hang up.
“Wait!” I barked. “What the fuck do you mean by ask your people? They’re with you!” My panic was rising by the second. “Right?”
“What are you talking about? Sara and Alex were supposed to spend the day with me, but they didn’t show up. I haven’t been able to reach her since this morning when she said she was getting Alex from school.”
There was silence. Only our breathing filled the phone lines. Then he spoke again, but this time the bitterness was gone from his tone. Anxiety had taken its place.
“Your people must’ve stopped her from getting the child out so early. They’re at your pent house, yes? Or your mother! She’s been seen around town a few times. Maybe she sent for them again, no?”
“The Luna is in the city, far away from Orphic,” Richard informed me. “I highly doubt that she has a hand in this. But we have a lead now, so it’s a matter of time before we find out.”
“Time?” I gasped. “Do we have that?”
Sara and my child were missing! She didn’t run away. After speaking to Sebastian face to face, I knew for sure that they were in trouble.
Megan was being held and questioned. But I had a horrible feeling that this was more than that she–wolf could’ve planned.
As Richard and his men did their thing, I plunged into the woods to do mine. From the camera footage near the school, it was clear that Sara hadn’t taken her car. Obviously, so that Lindsey wouldn’t quickly notice her. That meant she didn’t get home before they were taken.
Even though, they were driven off by a human taxi, I doubted this was a human’s doing. But
who else knew about them?

I spent the next few hours scouring the woods. Whoever did this didn’t have them locked up in a house in Orphic. Richard had checked. They were in the woods.
Someone interrupted thoughts. Something. My son’s scent. Very faint. It was mingled with
another. A human.
I saw him standing a mile away as if waiting for someone.
Of course, he was waiting for me. If not, what was a young man doing in the woods in the middle of the day?
As I approached, I realized he was the same man that rushed into the taxi which Sara hailed.
He’d made her miss that cab and taken another instead.
He was holding a piece of cloth tight in his hand and shaking with terror as I raced towards
him.
